Been playing about 6 months casually. Finally getting my K/D around 1 and can finally enjoy assault without feeling like a liability. First fps I've played. From the hardened vets, when is it ok to hop in a tank/DS/LAV? Talking about support, not to take over the ride. I've been out of ammo, no hives or depots in sight, and hopped in a tank to help gun down reds. Not all of us want to be a PITA. With an LAV, they usually stop and let you in. The HAVs and DSs not so much. Also, i'd like kick out if the vehicle is recalled. That way you don't cost the player isk by trying to help.
Wish there was a help button, like when you die and are begging for a logi, to denote a tanker needs a gunner. For the most part I stay out, but any advice on the subject would be helpful to blues that like to help where/when we can.
Also, when hopping in a tank, which gun is preffered for the help to use? |

Never is the general opinion of the vehicle community, while some of you bluedots are useful, competent, and won't steal the vehicle far too many are. Most of us have been burned far too often to trust anyone outside of our squad. As for the turret it's normally blaster or missile, though given the hit detection issues with the blaster right now you're better off using a missile turret where possible. If the pilot has small rails fitted he's trolling you, he knows it's merely a matter of time before you get frustrated at how broken they are and jump out and wonder off somewhere else, save yourself the effort and just get out. |

If you have a mic and the tank driver has a mic, it becomes a lot easier. You just ask if they need a gunner, or say GÇ£I am hopping on a gun until my armour regenerates.GÇ¥ If the Driver knows that you can hear them and you have announced your intentions, they will feel a lot more comfortable about having you on board.
What Tankers really worry about is a gunner who wonGÇÖt get out when they want to recall the tank, a gunner who wants to steel their tank, or a gunner who shoots at turrets that the tank is not targeting.
I would say as a general rule of thumb, donGÇÖt get in a tank unless you have verbal communication with the driver. Although, if I only have 2 notches of armour left and a tank is close I will jump in to save myself, even if it disturbs a paranoid tank driver, but even then I will get out if the tanker does. My suit costs a lot less than a tank, so if I think the tanker is trying to recall, I will get out even if I have low health.
For a Dropship, bail if it lands, or if it opens the bay doors.

From a drosphip point of view, well my view as a pilot; only get into a dropship if it is delivered, takes off and you shoot it and it comes back to get you. That means the pilot knows you want to get in and is okay with it.
Why don't I want passengers in my dropship?
1) I cannot get them to leave when I need them too and I cannot stop them risking my 1.4 million ISK ship. Sometimes I need to send my ship back and the window to do it is slim. I can't afford to have a blue in the ship sitting there stopping my recall, or worse running of with it when i hop out to recall.
2) so many things can kill me and i do not need a blue shooting a turret that was ignoring us and thus agroing it so it shoots us.
3) I do not want our position given away with random shots at the moon or the MCC.
I have an expensive asset. In most cases blues are not skilled in playing as a dropship gunner or support. My ISK My Risk. GTFO unless invited. Being a dropship gunner is a skill. You need SP in small turrets, you have to understand how pilots access risk so how they are likely to act. i need passengers who know when to exit, which enemies to target and which to not. I cannot tell the skilled from the bad. Safe option is no blues. |

I run tanks a lot, and honestly if a blueberry jumps in cause he is getting shot at and uses the small turret to fight back I don't usually mind. The main issue vehicle people have with blue dot gunners is they like to sit in gunner seats and mess things up. So I would say if you have to hop in a tank because your about to get killed it's probably not a bad idea, but as soon as you get the chance hop out. I had games where I had 2 blue dots hop in my tank and 2 more on the top shooting it with smgs cause it was full, then a fourth rammed an LAV into me, I think he was trying to kill one of the gunners to hop in. So, in conclusion, hop in only if it is necessary and bail out the moment you are in the clear, being a good gunner wouldn't hurt either but you really shouldn't be in a strangers tank long enough for them to notice your gunning skills.
P.S. I just remembered a game I had earlier and if anyone reading this still decides to camp in a blue dot's tank the whole game, taking their chance to recall and call a more appropriate tank away from them: please, please, please don't shoot at the enemy tank they are trying sneaking up on with a blaster turret . |

I only run super-cheap dropships. each is 86700 ISK I let blueberries pilot them just for the ***** n' giggles. |
