As some of you may be aware, DUST 514's shooting mechanics goes by a 'hitscan' system. In simple terms, hitscan means that where you aim is where that bullet goes. There is variation factors such as dispersion, but other than that your bullets will hit your target most of the time if that dot in the center of your screen is red.
What I'm proposing is a more complex system of ballistic physics. This system will give us bullet delay and bullet drop. All weapons should be affected by this EXCEPT laser weapons. Laser weapons are fine as they are.
Varying planet's gravity will amplify bullet drops. Other environmental effects could as well, such as wind. Imagine trying to shoot on a high-gravity gas giant. It'd be quite a challenge. This system is much more realistic and appealing.
What's your thoughts on this? |

I like it, but wouldn't it have a negative impact on performance as it'll require a lot more calculations from the server? |

really? dont really know any FPS with varying bullet drop/wander, and gravity effects simultaneously O.o sounds heavy on performance |

This would strain our poor little PS3s. They already have a hard enough time running this game due to their abysmal specs.
Also having to relearn how to aim every match due to different levels of gravity would be a pain in the ass. It'd probably make the Amarr weapons more popular though it they're immune to it.
Also most of the projectiles go fast enough that it wouldn't make a difference. |

If this happens and realistic physics are applied, the AR will most likely have a maximum range of 20-25m before the heated plasma fired from the weapon dissipates.... Go for it! |

It used to not be hitscan, but it was laggy as ****, so they made it hitscan. Wait until the PS4, and it might be different........ |

CCP has actually said they have no intention of building more realisitic bullet physics into the game since they would have such a negative impact on frame rates. This was a long time ago, E3 build era I think, so hit scan has been going since then. I don't actually know when we didn't have hit scan weapons in this game. |

I think precursor didn't, but hit detection and lag was so bad you couldn't tell. |

PS3 wouldn't care, man. This game uses server-side hit detection.
It'd be the LAG that would make this a bad idea. |
