It is still going to take them another 6 months to "fix" PvP.
I wouldn't trust CCP to do decent AI right now without having drones that spin in corners or try to grenade friendlies.

Yep, work on it hasn't started.
Just imagine how long it'll be before they can implement it considering they're been "working" on the SP rollover system since January. |

This thread is officially a bitter vet thread now.
We are both too nice to CCP by keeping this game with people in it, and also too cruel for expecting them to do more than they are capable of. |

Now you know that's not a fair comparison. They want to do PvE, they don't want the rollover system.
In fact they are pushing hard to get you to log in every day without fail to play at least one match with the combination of the daily activity bonus coupled with doubling the WP reward for the first match of the day.
A rollover system runs counter to their aims. |

[FEEDBACK/SUGGESTION] Agent Missions - ideas and mechanics - https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=97468&find=unread Status: Some decent ideas, but we wouldn't do any of this till we start PvE.
is the exact quote.
This doesn't indicate that PvE is "not on the white board" but instead implies that they won't be doing any implementation of additional PvE mechanics until after PvE is already in game. In other words, they aren't about to work on a feature that is dependent upon something that isn't yet released in game.

A rollover system runs counter to their aims. Well, then the rollover system wouldn't hurt all that much would it?
People that log in/play each day are getting more SP than those that don't?
Meh, of course I know the rollover system would hurt CCP, and since they don't know how to do anything but sell boosters they don't want to give us the rollover. |

Just one reason not to play ccp just being so out of touch on what players want from a MMO. Even battlefield games and bots and or campaigns |

CCP is a fairly small studio and from what I can deduce is taking a low risk, pay as you go approach to building DUST. Give them a few hundred million bucks plus another 100 mil for marketing and they could compete with BF, CoD and other AAA games. I don't think they are out of touch. I just don't think they can afford to do it in the time space many are used to. |

Tough for ccp then sorry but the truth of the matter is you can't make games like u used too and by out of touch is their playing catch up and making mistakes a 20 year industry sorted out a long time ago. Put blunty small Indy companys have put out more enjoyable shooters.

It kind of seems like they're starting to learn that lesson though, mayhaps the stellar reviews they've been receiving have given them a clue

I ain't gonna lie. I have no problem with no PvE right now. A console FPS game is a PvP game by nature. Historically, there have been very few FPS games on consoles where the multiplayer PvP wasn't the primary focus. |

I think PVE is important for Dust514 , it will attract more players, and then more players to PVP , if you watch CCP presents 2013 they have much focus on PVE .
It will come, but my guess is fanfest 2014 , if I was looking for a good FPS game I would not play this game, but I do hope for some of the things from fanfest 2013 then this game will be great. |

Looks like they added an office in Slough, UK, as well. In 2012 CCP had 530 employees which is a decent size. However, their gross income from 2012 was only 65 million USD with profits of 4 million. Economically they are small but stable. Plus, they are now spread out over four games.
Now compare to GTA V which had an opening weekend of $800 million. A big budget AAA title looks to have between 150 to 400 full time employees plus publishers and other supporting companies. I'm guessing they farm out a lot of the art considering their games cost hundreds of millions. CCP handles almost all their own business plus one of the most robust server farms in the world.
I appreciate the long view that CCP takes.
(I am not in the game business but I can Google pretty well.) |

Take a few calming breaths here Mercs.
First there are many definitions flying about that do not match up to how software and specifically games are created. Not having on the whiteboard means it is not officially on the work list.
What that doesn't mean is whether there has been any work on at all. It might well mean that there is a Codex version that was stumbling along and they (Devs/QA) could play it (somewhat, mediocre or great who knows). The basic idea sort of worked and they thought that it would be worth doing.
It might mean nothing besides the idea is done.
However, given the frantic nature of these forums I would hesitate to let us know that something is near done when the date they plan on finishing it is half a year away, or more. The rabid nature of their players precludes that.
As mentioned, PvP needs to work and it doesn't currently. It is much better than since the 1.0 of Uprising but there is much that needs to be done. Then the massive amount of work necessary to put the racial variants for the rest of the game will start ticking over, requiring a constant set of programmer and art resources.
To us, a year is a horrible amount of time to wait. While to CCP/Shanghai they have a directive from CCP to get the game working and slowly add features. The players market and PvE are on the list. Just not SOON(tm). |

PvE is perfect for casual players. And for just popping in and burning down your SP Cap.
However, does it require ISK? More importantly, will it convince players to burn AUR?
That is going to be the question that is important to CCP/Iceland. DUST is F2P but that means Real World Cash must be spent or the game will die. |

This is just not true. Work has started, but was put on hold until PvP is fixed. It's not that they have nothing. It's just not good enough to be released yet. And after all: We all already saw the trailers with drones. |

Personally i ultimately want drones in DUST, but i really don't want CCP to think about that until the core mechanics are solid or better and we have the full racial lineups for suits, vehicles, weapons, modules and equipment. Plus other core stuff as well.
As far as game content, the only thing i want to see being delivered concurrently with the above is maps/sockets/compounds etc. - we need to get that combinatorical engine working and need time to de-stickyfy the maps. I'm conflicted on the value of adding another mode atm - if done well it would prolly be a net positive. |
