Our Deepest Regret wrote:I'm not a big EVE guy, but even I know that the game out of the box was utter sandbox with very little content. There are articles online going back ten years predicting EVE's death from lack of content. It was the player base creating their own fun that saved EVE and made it the success that it is today, not the developers. So I have to call BS whenever I read someone ranting about "all the features" Eve originally opened with. Like, lol what? Star wars Galaxies was doing bigger business than them at the time, and that game was sh*t.
The thing is, even way back when, Eve didn't have a lot of features, but it was unique.
It was uniquely one shard, one economy, and as an MMO it was almost uniquely skill based rather than level based.
Here's what you should take home from this, not that the players can make the game - of course they can, but it takes a unique game to inspire players.
Dust is anything but unique at this point.
Edit: and Dust has very little content.

I hope the maps and building team get moved to WoD team tbh They've delivered a lot actually (hit detection fix in 1.4, 3 new maps, one new outpost, corp taxes, etc), seems like you're defining "anything" in a way that excludes everything except for some specific things you want. You also seem to be forgetting that the new weapons and vehicle changes have only been delayed (probably just a month). Stop being so damn melodramatic. All that stuff you just listed should have worked right out of beta, so after god knows how long in alpha. A year long beta where every 3 games u had to restart your start your ps. Iinstead know we have badly balanced shooter that sort of finally works after an effect 3 years development time time. No I'm sorry the bs we are getting now should have been in the game from the start. Dusts development has been rudderless from the start and one mistake after another. There big breakthrough no one cares about is so underused I don't get why they put so much effort into it. EVE did what it was ment too out of the box. Dust has only just got shooting part working. I'm done with dust I'm going to spend money on games I know will work and be fun. Dont get me wrong ccp guys are smart people but they don't get shooters. I hope they salvage dust but seeing whats coming I doubt they will do it in time. The tldr Dust514 is a huge disappointment I'm done with
So are you saying that you would rather have not played Dust 514 at all until patch 1.4 came out? Or even further past 1.4? that it should have stayed in closed beta?
Cause I'm pretty sure you would be one the guys flooding the forums with "Why hasn't this game released yet!? It's still in closed beta!? ZOMG why is my life so damn centered around games!?"
I don't see the problem with being able to play a game for free while its being developed.
Yea, there's been some terrible changes. And guess what...you were playing the game, i was playing the game. It couldn't have been "game breaking" for you, because you played a "broken game" of your own free will. a FREE game, where there's absolutely no obligation for it to serve your every whim.
That's what people don't seem to understand. They are doing us a solid by letting us play the game as they mold it into the vision they showed us from the beginning. They are doing US a favor by providing this game, developing it, and not asking for a single dime in return. THEY want this game to succeed, because it's THEIR brainchild.
If it fails, only their ego's are hurt. The only price they pay for continuing to change this game for the better is grey hair. I can guarantee you they want this game to succeed FAR more then you do.
Let them get into the flow of these new monthly patches. If patch 1.4 is any indication of what to expect each month, then I see our thirst slowly being quenched after a couple years in the desert.

Is it not possible to give us more control over the sensitvity and acceleration? Why are we so limited, why?
I want to shotgun, but the slow aiming gets me killed and frustrated. It simply is not feasible nor fun to play for more than one match. I haven't played this game for a week, and all my boosters have run out. I refuse to buy more until aiming is fixed. Stop crapping on DS3 users, enough is enough.
And for the idiots saying, "but you have aim assist derps derpity da derp derp", it's not enough! Certain actions disable AA, leaving you in manual aiming mode. When that happens you are gimped with several weapons because the aiming is just not there.
COD and Battlefield have fanatstic aiming, take off AA on those games, and it's still very good to aim. Come back to DUST and you'll be angry, because you know when you get killed 99% of the time it's not your fault, it's the crappy aiming system in this game and CCP's constant blind eye to the subject.
CCP, stop for the love of all that is holy-ignoring aiming. It's the elephant in the room, it's right there, but patch after patch I see nothing done about it. I don't care about aim assist, I WANT better aiming! That's it, that's all I want to see done, can this not be done?
Please, please, please fix this. I can take getting shot at by multiple tanks, I can take facing multiple sqauds of full proto in Ambush, but what I can't handle anymore is this subpar- Dollar Store aiming mechanic(s). Please fix this, please?
Why does it seem like you have more fun complaining on the forums then playing the game?
Why aren't you playing CoD and Battlefield then?

One of the biggest things that has the community downtrodden is the lack of the communication and considering that there was time taken to inform us of the features that have been delayed, as well as the fact that you're going to be receiving feedback on what features are coming, I'd say that there's been enormous steps taken to quell that.
Despite some of the more extremist players who resort to berating developers or CCP as a whole (I've even been guilty of this in the past) there is some good intentions buried in the immature behavior - we all want the same thing: Dust 514 to prosper and be the most invigorating, player-focused and most importantly: player-altered FPS experience available.
So, here's to CCP for making changes for the better. Communication is always a better option than being left in the dark. Preach it, brother.
And the only thing better than communication is comedy.

Actually, it hasn't even been out for six months. It was released on May 14th (514). It was in beta for a year before that and there were a lot more pressing issues then than there are today; if you look at some of the early gameplay videos you'll notice some really shoddy frame rates. That's not from the recording software, that was literally how the game played. There were plenty of balance issues, you couldn't play for more than a few games without a hard freeze and it was just generally a terrible (but somehow still fun) experience.
Flash forward to today and it's ten times better.
Also, your comment on aiming confuses me considering that there are dozens of threads saying that Aiming (aim assist) is OP right now I have played Call of Duty and Battlefield and honestly I feel that Dust's aiming system in 1.4 is more solid than those games. Bad Company 2 felt like I was straining against a rubber band to turn.

Exactly. When i see people comparing Dust with CoD and BF i think: "CoD and BF HAVE to be better than Dust, they are in the market, if my memory is correct, nearly for a decade or more . The biggest change CoD had was with CoD 4, and now they are farming the same formula every year. How could it fail? The gap between BF 2 to 3, in console, was huuge. And yet, BF 4 will have some little innovation (Like "Levolution").
The ironic part is that the only thing those games really bring with their expansions and new releases is new weapons and maps. Not necessarily new content. I mean, sure you have some different perks between the games but beyond that it's just dog tags and titles. There's nothing really player intuitive. Battlefield 3 has it's "only in battlefield" aspect but there's only so many jet stunts you can watch before you just sort of lose interest.

See above. It's not always about new weapons and maps.
Also, Eve Online was not that great in it's first conception. I started in Red Moon Rising and I have to say that the UI was terrible for the time, if you could even muster up the courage to make sense of it. Before the bit scamming incidents that made CCP decide that griefing/scamming wasn't covered by the EULA - it was just minecraft in space. Losing a battleship actually meant something because you had to spend all day mining the resources to obtain it.
Despite popular belief all the "races" - well, bloodlines rather - weren't in game until later. The Vherokior for instance, they didn't exist until then. Hell, missions didn't exist. A lot of the ships didn't exist and overall it was bland as hell. It didn't just start out amazing. It didn't even become the modern "Eve Online" until Apocrypha and you can bet your ass that there were a lot of people mad as ever when they decided that Eve Online was a harsh environment where players could screw each other over - so much they actually lost a great deal of subscribers.
They gained a bunch too, but it didn't happen over night. It wasn't like that from the very beginning - it was crafted and sculpted that way.
-Break-
Listen. I played Eve Online for a long time. I started with Red Moon Rising and then I left because I didn't like it. I came back around the Apocrypha/Dominion expansion and since then I've had a blast. It's the only game I find myself coming back to no matter what. Maybe, instead of complaining about all the things that aren't there, you -SHOULD- go play a different game and relax a bit.
Dust is still going to be here when you get back and it's only going to get better with time, whether you believe it or not. |

Eve was unique even in it's earliest days. It's true that the UI sucked (still does to some extent) and that it had very little content at the time. What kept Eve afloat is that what it did have was unique.

I read the post, i know how aiming for DS3 is bad. I've been here the week open beta was launched
I've been here, played the game and have since been "sucking it up". I recently switched to KB/M in 1.4 because i was tired of it and the reaction the forums took to a common feature in a console FPS : aim assist.
My questions still stand, unanswered.
Edit - On a side note, anyone beginning a question with "Do you even (blank) bro?" i tend to find they are lacking in plenty of knowledge. |

Opinions on Aiming are just that. Opinions.
I'm running 20/0 games and I love the aiming system - sure there are a lot of variables that play into that (I do use Proto suits after all) but honestly the aiming isn't that bad, at least for me.

Bear in mind that it's insanely easy to get investors and publishers under the pretense you're making a WoW clone because they're -literally everywhere-. If you come up saying, "Yeah, we want to make an MMO" to an investor they're going to want some features similar to WoW and inevitably you're going to adhere to that because you're not going to have 60-100 million dollars to shell out for your own innovative content.
Publishers and Investors are often the death of an MMO solely because they're going to want their money back and they're thinking on a business standpoint of "well, this works so we should do it". Those free-to-play MMORPGs often have things that have a way of convincing you spend entire wealths of money. For $20 I can get a month of active and passive boosters in Dust 514. For $30 I can get a permanent mount on Tera. I don't think I need to explain the benefit of having boosters (that apply to everything) over a mount I can only use out of combat, especially when Tera has teleporters, warp scrolls, flight masters etc.
You also have to consider that other than Sony being Dust 514's publisher, CCP largely works on their own revenue (minus White Wolf who they merged with for the sake of making World of Darkness when they were getting too ambitious for their own good). They can't hire out a bunch of developers they can't pay and you can't pay people with

If you look deep down, hard, you'll notice there hasn't been much work done on the Dust/Eve Link at all. Apart from corporation changes and the orbital strike system (made way back before we were even on Tranquility) there's been virtually nothing but back-end changes.
We've gotten some cool stuff on our side for Faction Warfare, like being able to select who you fight for and not having to wait for a match to pop up (still do since Gallente/Winmatar are brutalizing the other factions) but those don't have much to do with the link.
Truth be told we're probably not going to see anything even remotely regarding the eve-dust link until 2014 simply because their current priorities are fixing the core functionality of the game and they've been doing a really good job of that.
Despite some people saying that aiming is broken (this thread for instance) there's a lot more saying that Aim Assist is OP, it's a double standard if anything and as I said before opinions are just opinions. I've played other games like Battlefield and Call of Duty and I think that the aiming system here is much more manageable, now, than those. Bad Company 2 was like trying to aim with a rubber band attached to the side of the barrel...
At any rate. The game is getting better but we do have to keep in mind that being a free-to-play shooter (on the PS3 no less) it's not going to have the same kind of manpower and budget that you would from the big shooter franchises who have publishers, investors and revenue from previous games. Call of Duty was nothing amazing in it's first iteration, no matter how much people want to think that the CoD franchise is this huge thing and I don't think anyone even remembers Battlefield 1942 (which was PC only, btw =P) |

I'm glad that CCP is willing to defer content and balance releases until later patches if they are not ready. And I'm grateful that they are willing to communicate this to us early, and will let us provide feedback on proposed changes next week. To do this all in the face of so much negativity takes real guts in my book.
People want to focus on what hasn't been done or what has been done wrong in their opinion, or what CCP could have done better, or how they could have built a better game using their broken Ti-85 and a rusty duracell.... that's awesome for them.
