is a really stupid idea.
I have over 1.5m SP sitting there, if the numbers of previous builds still stood I would be thinking about skilling up my passive scanning skills (and dampening is pointless too).
What is the point. The passive scanning range increase is negligible. No one is going to drop an extender for a scanning module. (unless that module offers squad scan)
And now we have a hand held scanner. That you are going to offer WP for using in 1.5 - just to increase the number of ways for logis to farm WPs in matches.
Seriously, why would you introduce a piece of equipment that negates the whole point of a skill branch. A branch that was nerfed into uselessness. |

Instead of this, lets just give passive scanners a buff. Add shared vision to passive scanners |

Passive scanning needs a big buff. But just leave my active scanners alone.
Passive scanning and active scanning fill two different roles on the field. active scanning is best for reaching out and finding targets for the team, and passive scanning is there for giving mercs better info during gunfights.
Currently passive scanning seems kinda broke. It needs some love. The solution is not to nerf active scanners, though. |

Sensor skills are far from useless, sensor dampening is the most effective but the others help out too. |

How can you say that. Dampners do nothing if you are scanned by a handheld. You will still show up. |

Even if you fix the passive and dampner skills, what's the point of hand held scanners if not to farm WPs? Seriously. |

I've been using scanners since they were first introduced. I use them for lining up headshots with a fully charged scrambler rifle. Most people just use the scanner to scan down enemies so they don't get the jump on you.
So what if the guy hanging back and scanning gets a couple WPs? he's being a useful asset to his squad. If every pub match I played had a few blueberries "farming" with the scanner I'd be happy.

If the point of scanning was only to farm WP, no one would be using them at the moment.
Most people use them due to the huge advantage imparted by having constant intel on enemy position/direction of view. I myself don't think that scanners need a WP award - the intel itself is reward enough.
Dampening, by the way, is great, especially now that everyone uses scanners. With the dampening skill to 5 as a medium suit, you do not need any modules to evade the basic scanner. You need one module to evade the advanced, and two to evade the proto (with the exception of the Duvolle Focused).
I am pretty sure that dampening also decreases the chevron "seen" time after you break an enemy's line of sight, but I haven't tested it extensively yet.
Both the precision enhancement and range amplification skills are pretty useless IMO, but theoretically they could be advantageous in close quarters where line of sight can be broken by cover, and pulling out your scanner might mean your death because your gun isn't out. |
