I agree. Until things are more balanced, Prof 3 max. Put your skill points in other areas, or other weapons, that way you are more nerf proof.

its worth it if you have a proto suit that can stack 3 dmg mods & still have a decent tank, like a logi suit. it also depends on the weapon, high damage per shot weapons like tac ARs, scramblers, snipers, MDs, all go really well with stacking damage. its also good if you use that paticular weapon much more than others.
however taking every weapon you spec into and taking it to prof5 is stupid, you really should have 2 weapons at the most on level 5.
that sums it up, but just remember, taking a weapon to level 5 and stacking damage makes people think ur gun is OP, and then u might get nerfed, which equates to over 2mil SP lost on a nerf. weapons attract nerfs the most, so investing alot of SP into a single one might seriously **** you over. |

I just take mine to level 3 if I am really dedicated to the weapon, the extra damage is useful, but really not noticeable.
Some people like to take things to level 5 to really get that miniscule edge it gives them, but really it isn't needed.
The things you could spec into with all that extra SP is by far more worth it. I mean hell, for those two extra levels that is about 1.2 million SP. You could go full proto on two more weapons with that SP, go full proto (plus some leftover SP for other stuff) on a module, or upgrade an ADV suit to prototype.
Those 2 extra levels are definitely a waste of SP IMO. Although after logging into my main, I realized I had actually gone into level 4 prof with my AR, lol. Wish I would have saved that SP! |

and yes its worth it, becuase its a damage mod without diminishing returns that doesnt take up a high slot.
prof 5 + 10% mod = 25% damage....
it would take near 3 damage mods for that kind of power but you get it with a single mod with prof 5.
its free damage, its always worth it |

But I don't know how not to take my skills all the way to the max.... I just hate seeing something at L4 and seeing that one empty bar left in the 'old look' skill list.
But screw being rational, efficient, or effective. Once I'm done with the core skills the weapons will definitely be going to 11!!

Definitely worth it if you have a favourite weapon. With that lvl 5 prof stacked on top of my 3 complex dmg mods and an ishuukone sniper rifle I make people cry in their sleep. Haven't bothered with lvling AR too much since a few builds ago, I prefer it to actually be challenging, as in toxin vs duvolle-stompers. Also have stayed away from most of the other kinds of weapons, heavies make me twitchy with how slow they are so I won't be going hmg proto again and until recently all the other weapons have been too buggy/in contention of nerfdom for me to bother skilling into them beyond militia. |

It generally involves skilling things that seem boring or pointless at first such as CPU and pg upgrades, but in the long run, when you maximize those core skills you will get a lot more out if every suit, saving time and isk while upping your survivability time to gain more sp. one thing too many people overlook is the systems hacking, the edge it gives you is astronomical once you max that baby out. I guess that is the kind of thing that separates the COD fpsers from the hardcore dusties, the avg CoD fan just wants to max up their weapons so they can #getmadkillzlulz while ignoring everything else, then they come on the forums and complain that everything is op. |

I have my scrambler rifle at proficiency level 4, and I'm definitely going to take it to level 5 once I've finished a few other vital skills. With a charged headshot, I often take out all but a tiny sliver of the enemy's HP. With level 5 proficiency, I should be able to one-shot those cases. And being a scout, high damage on that first shot is even more important, since my chances of survival plummets dramatically once the enemy notices me. |

Right on, man. Make the investment up front for maximum effectiveness with the core skills. Systems hacking is one of a very few core skills left to get to L5. And she goes from L4 -> L5 this Friday. 777 SP wasted? Sure, to some maybe.
All that being said. The SMG will probably be the first weapon for me to take all the way.... I'm looking forward to it, so for the folks that have said it's worthwhile - thanks for giving me something to look forward to.

lol so many wasted SP. Those coulda have beeing applied to more usefull things like better nanohives, drop uplinks or even a better side specialisation. Beeing versatile with proto weapons and equipment is really worthwhile. Sure you can put every single SP into AR proficency 5 but was it worth it? I doubt it. I allready get top of my team 90% of the time i play and kill most people really quick with my duvolle on lvl1. Im proud to have the following instead:
-gallente proto medium frame +proto logi -amarr heavy frame on proto -all equipment on proto (apart from active scanners and RE's) -AR,MD,Swams and Forgeguns on proto -core upgrades on 5 (max CPU+PG) -max armor upgrades (repairs and plates) -complex damage mods -Charybdis with basic shields (more would be overkill)
Basically im a jack off all trades when it comes to infantry gameplay. I can deal with infantry and vehicles the same and have a counter for allmost everything. But on the other hand it came with a high price of 20 million SP to get where im. |
