Ok, CCP, I don't know if you can tell me but do you have a general idea of when you'll be releasing the cloaking device? I'm real excited for it so that I can stealth flaylock people from the back (trolololol). |

I hope it happens, but I also hope it's difficult to fit around and impossible to perma-cloak. I've always thought a cloaky Scout using pistols would be a lot of fun. |

I think it should be exclusive to scout, or not work as well on assault/heavy cause the idea of a heavy sitting in a corner with a cloaking device scares me. |

Whenever the cloaking device comes it better be light dropsuit only or i'm going to be pissed off. Scouts need an edge that cannot be one upped by a logi with a duvolle and lolMagic Aiming. |

Why have a cloaking device in this game? I could understand if the scanner was an across the map given but come on.
A cloaking device would make even less sense for ground warfare.
Dammit CCP just make the scout suit a stealth suit to give people a reason to run it over more vanilla medium suit crap. |

imo, it shouldn't be a full cloak, rather a active camo for you to more easily pass up people who aren't looking. A good eye might spot you, but otherwise, you might get passed up. A more detailed explanation about how I think cloaking should work and more can be viewed here. |

Honestly, I would love to see the cloaking device made so it seem like you are the predator while moving, be completely invisible when standing still, and drop away completely once you fire your weapon with a 30 second cool down. Having it built into all the Scout class dropsuits would be ideal, however, if made equipment we should get an extra equipment slot and a cpu/pg boost at the very least. |

Linky for the official cloaking info: http://dust514.com/news/blog/2013/03/equipment-is-your-friend/ Just for those who needed it.
Also, as of that post, and Fanfest, we don't have a solid timeframe on them yet - I'm hoping sooner rather than later, but they sounded like cloaking would be the LAST thing coming from that devblog, and nothing else listed there has shown up yet except the return of Active Scanners.
I want them to fix passive scanning first, THEN we can look at cloaking - I'd love to see a cloaked Logi appearing in hotspots to patch up the wounded, then vanishing and retreating once the job is done. Or the more predictable cloaked Scout because being detected by an enemy's scanners (whether passive or active) means you're still marked even though you're not visible. |

Not that I don't like the idea of REAL logi people reviving unnoticed, but then the "logi" people who are really just AR users who abuse the logi will be ALL OVER the cloaking device to the point that the QQ and rage will be so uncontrollable on the forums that the cloak will be nerfed INTO THE GROUND like the laser rifle from Chromasome-Uprising. Then, BYE BYE cloaking device. It should definitely be exclusive to scout, or only effective on the scout. So that the scouts can actually be...SCOUTS. |

Well it's not like the cloak will be complete invisibility (killzone) but simply you are more transparent. This will still be usefull to scouts as they are already hard to notice and the other frames would gain benefit without being too OP. Other suits would be using the deployable shield over the cloak anyway.
`Sigh. Just another fun game of DUST. |

As a ninja knifer myself who thrives on stealth, here is my recommendation.
First off, it is highly likely that CCP might implement the same cloaking mechanics as in Eve Online. In Eve, you have a perma-cloak but you're unable to do anything. If you're on a ship that is NOT specialized for covert ops or blockade running or stealth bombing, then you are unable to warp while cloaked and you suffer a heavy penalty in speed when the cloak is active. In addition to that, once the cloak is deactivated you suffer a targeting delay of about 10 seconds. You are also unable to activate any module and unable to fire while cloaked. Basically, you're useless when cloaked...
unless... you're in a ship dedicated towards cloaking such as covert ops, stealth bombing, and blockade running. At that point you are given the benefit of being able to warp to any spot in space while cloaked, no targeting delay when decloaking and there are no speed penalties applied. But even then you are still unable to engage while cloaked and your modules still remain disabled.
But there is another mechanic for Eve-style cloaks. If a ship that is not cloaked gets too close to you (within 2,000 meters), then you get decloaked automatically and you are unable to recloak for a period of about 10-15 seconds. This happens regardless if the ship you're in is specialized or not.
CCP might add something like this for Dust cloaks. I would propose the following:
1. Unable to fire without first decloaking. Since it is confirmed to be an equipment item, you might have to hold it in your hand in place of the gun or knives which practically supports the idea of not being able to do anything without decloaking.
2. Heavies don't get to fit it because they lack the equipment slot. All other non-scout suits should be able to use it but suffer the following penalties: speed penalty, unable to passively scan, and no fitting bonus.
3. Specialized suits such as the Scout GK.0 or maybe a future dedicated Covert-Ops suit get the following benefits: no speed penalty at all, able to use passive scan, and receive a bonus to fitting on the scout suit.
4. Unable to fit on basic frame suits of any type or race.
5. The longer you sprint, the less transparent you are and the more opaque you become until you're about semi or 1/3rd transparent. |

Back at Fanfest this year, CCP did say that there will be a cloaking device as one of the new things to come and I think they have taken some inspiration from Predator. |

I have been saving SP and SK be because when I first started I spend plenty SP on Corporation(I thought it was to get more clone reserves in battle), big mistake.
I want to really get into the Scout because I love stealth; however, I haven't done anything w/ that class because I don't know if it has cloaking ability. I know it has camouflage... but what does that mean? Is it just less visible in enemies HUD?
Is there any confirmed news regarding camouflage coming to DUST? |

I still say the best option would be to make cloaking devices a MASSIVE PG/CPU drain, but give Scouts a MASSIVE fitting bonus for them so we can use them with much less restrictions than other suits.
If they nerf Logi PG/CPU down a bit, but give them a similar bonus to almost all equipment fitting EXCEPT for the cloak (or if the bonus is small enough not to make the cloak easy to fit), they'll - like any other non-Scout - be struggling to fit the cloaking device without limiting their other options significantly. That way, a cloaked Logi will need to be built around the cloak, making the actual Logi role more viable than a stealthy hunter "Logi". |

I think CCP would need to define its role.
Just like in eve - is it a cloak for gathering intel, setting up shop in certian key areas waiting to pounce on your enemy!
Or is it some sort of active combat cloak or something?
I hope its similar to eve in that you de-cloak if you fire and such. |

Just have it similar to in eve, make the cloak use a really high amount of CPU. You could in theory fit it to anything but it will totally gimp your heavy fit that's for sure ;-) give scouts a "95% reduction to CPU usage" or what ever. |

The "camouflage" that the description is referring to is the scout's profile bonus (5% profile reduction per level). Cloaking has yet to be implemented in-game.

This post makes sense!(???)
Many people want to be 'Predator', personally I want to be Solid Snake
'This is a sneaking mission Snake - there is no reason to engage the enemy...' Or whatever, it's been like 3 years since I played an MSG game.
Whatever cloaking is going to be used for, I wholly predict it will be go through the FotM/crushing nerf cycle... |
