All I see now is beams of light coming from everywhere and the fact it cuts thru armor as well as shields at the same rate is ridiculous. The LR is supposed to be strong against shields but the fact it can cut thru 400 HP of armor in 2 seconds is a bit much. As you try and out flank them the beam of light just follows you without error. So by the time you do reach the target you are either dead or near death and easy to finish off. With the Aim bot or whatever you call it being extremely proficient I have had the light actually go around corners and still connect. Now combine three or more of these in a group and good luck. The concept of the LR goes against all physics, the further light travels from its source the weaker it becomes. It is the opposite for this weapon. It should be a plasma beam and not a LR.
I am not asking for a nerf. I am just venting because this is now the fourth weapon that has been spammed to oblivion. TAC AR, Flay Lock, Fused Locus Grenade, and now the LR. Am I the only one sick of the flavors of the months. Its not the players fault so much as it is CCP for not releasing all weapons and balancing them correctly. I'm done venting, now the trolls can begin there usual get no where BS.
I think I have 3 main issues with this post...
1. There is a huge tradeoff for the effectiveness of this weapon at long range. It's useless up close in any combat situation that any other weapon would excel at (minus the sniper). This means that the function you're complaining about is just about the only function the weapon has.
2. The idea that the common range/damge relationship is flipped for a weapon was one of the more creative ideas I've seen in a FPS. It's also cool that they give a description that explains why this would be the case for the laser and also why the heat build up creates more damage. This leads me to my last point.
3. You're probably not a physics major. I'm not saying that the description would make sense theoretically but you're oversimplifying the concept. For example, consider how light travels through a convex lens. At the focal point (further from the lens), the light is concentrated and reaches it's maximum intensity as the rays converge. Anyone who's played with a magnifying glass in the sun knows that there is a "sweet spot" when trying to fry things in the sun.
Taken from the description of the weapon... "Targets are GÇÿpainted' with a high intensity beam that deals sustained, focused damage in a concentrated area to maximize damage potential. At the core of the weapon is the thermal cavity, within which an optic spacer converges and blends three individually pumped beams into a single coherent output."
This hints at a connection to this physical phenomenon enough for me to give CCP a break with the whole "hey wait a minute guys, I found something in Dust 514 that breaks the laws of physics" QQ.
The laser rifle is a great niche weapon that is finally seeing some play time in the game. Why complain about it?
PS: If you're a physics major then I apologize but you should also know about lenses.
