Hello,
This topic is about what improvements vehicles need for the new update. Hopefully CCP reads this and considers at least some of these aspects or gives us insight on what they plan on doing with the new update, Uprising 1.5.
Let's begin.
Passenger Improvements
Passengers are very limited to what they can do. A passenger can only sit in a chair in LAVs, which is not fun at all. This goes to dropships as well. This aspect is not focusing on the passenger arming a turret, but the ones that are just sitting there.
Ability to engage in combat - Giving passengers the ability to fire their weapons while in a dropship or LAV would be a very nice feature to an otherwise boring ride. Imagine driving by shooting your shotgun at people or sniping from a dropship.
Ability to change camera views - Giving the passenger the ability to change the position of the camera would be another great feature. Being able to see what the driver sees, or any other angle, would make the passengers more aware of their surroundings, and if needed to abort the vehicle, they can due to their ability to actually see what's going on.
Ability to mark destinations - The ability for a passenger to mark a destination would create efficient transports. This is good nonverbal communication between passenger and pilot.
Ability to mark threats - The ability to mark threats like swarm launchers would be very helpful for the pilot. Passengers can point out installations, forge gunners, AV weapons, etc. which would greatly increase the chances of survival for everyone in the vehicle. This is also useful for turret operators as they can see who to kill.
Ability to mark for pickup - Being able to mark yourself for pickup means that a transport can easily know who to pick up. Only pilots will be able to see this marker. This helps people from knowing who needs pick ups, who are transports, can save ammo, and take out the irritation of constant shooting at a friendly's vehicle even if they don't want to pick you up. Just a simple feature like this will solve all these problems
Pilot/Driver Improvements
Pilots/drivers suffer quite a bit of inconveniences, these ideas are here to help solve them.
Vehicle security settings - Pilots should be able to lock their vehicles to three different settings. Public, anyone can join. Private, only the squad can join. And Solo, no one can get in your vehicle. Public would be the default setting. Private is here for so that you can execute squad missions/orders much more easily. And solo, if you don't want anyone in your vehicle, or if you plan on doing some kind of suicide mission for whatever reason. You can also have separate settings for who can drive. Public for anyone, private for only squad members, and solo for only you. The default is solo. This is so that you can call in a vehicle for a friend, or keep people from taking your vehicle if you do decide to get out.
Ability to eject passengers - Giving pilots the ability to eject people would help get different people in their vehicle. Most importantly this feature can eject one or more people at the same time from a dropship so that they can go out and fight. This will make dropships better transports. A 3-5 second ejection warning would be convenient for passengers.
Abilities to mark a point of interest - This is especially good for telling people who are not in your squad, or if you don't have a mic, to do something after leaving the vehicle. For instance a dropship pilot can hover over objective A, mark it, and then eject the passengers. They'll be warned by a 3-5 second ejection warning, this gives them enough time to see what they have to do, or why they're being dropped off. This can also be used to show where the pilot is taking the passengers.
Ability to change camera views - Just like how passengers should be able to. A pilot could probably use a first person camera view, which could make things seem more realistic for some. Other angles such as rear view would be helpful.
Impossible to recall vehicles taking damage - If the vehicle is currently taking damage than it should not be possible to recall it. If you're in the process of recalling it, and then it is damaged, then the recalling process should cancel.
Controls/Camera/UI
Controls, especially for dropships, are quite hard to get down. Harder than it should be.
Improve dropship controls - The controls for dropships need to be improved. It's complicated as is. I am a dropship pilot, and have been for awhile. And I can use these controls, but I believe having easier controls would benefit me, and hopefully other dropship pilots. Easier way to hover fast enough. Simple controls to execute maneuvers faster and more efficiently.
Improve dropship camera - Have the dropship's camera point exactly at the direction it's going. Also give the pilot different camera views, as stated above.
HUD for vehicles - For dropships a gauge that tells you how high you are, and how far you are from the ground in meters would help a lot. Another gauge for dropships would tell you how leveled you are. And a speedometer for all vehicles will be helpful as well.

Void Echo wrote:when your recalling the vehicle, the recall process already gets cancelled when enough damage is given and the vehicle starts burning. your suggestion is basically saying "no recall system at all" That's obviously not what I'm saying at all. I guess you never had the experience of having a vehicle recall while you were attacking it. |

Godin Thekiller wrote:1: As we have already talked about, the "firing out of vehicles" would need to be limited, such as no explosives or very high powered weapons. This could keep open vehicles, especially Dropships from being abused.
2: A better idea would be to have the pilot able to have a auto link to whoever is in the vehicle, like a intercom. And he could hear all the chatter inside of his vehicle. The being able to see is good enough right now imo.
3: That won't help much, and could be used massively for trolling. Anyways, most of the time, the pilot knows where to take the passengers.
4: Agreed, but after they fix the viewing range, as the pilot already sees further than the passengers, so it won't help much.
5: Agreed. God I hate looking for people.
6: You get a +1 just for that.
7: read # 6
8: Now I'm not sure about that one. That is a job for a squad leader, and since they are not in a squad (or is in a squad, and is just getting a ride), they know what they want to do. Also, like I said, a intercom would work better.
9: You must not be a pilot, as every vehicle has a 1st person view. They are ****, but they have them. A rear view camera, however is needed. SO many times just a rear view camera would have saved me.
10: That's a negative ghost rider. Rather, it should take about 5 seconds longer, and a RDV should pick it up. Also, if the modules are on cooldown, the said vehicle can't be called in until the said modules are back to normal.
11: A new (separate) control scheme would be good enough, reworking the entire handling would **** off people..... again. Also, making it to where the maneuvers we have to try and pull off ourselves to be only a button away is stupid. This isn't a arcade flying game.
12: The entire HUD's needs reworking. I agree though, as those thing are essential.
1. In my opinion I think firing from vehicles would be just fine. It opens up a whole new door of opportunity for everyone on the battlefield. The endless combination of strategic consequences. It's not as bad as some people think. It's quite hard aiming while moving at high speeds. Plus most weapons will be almost useless if you're firing from a dropship. You also have to keep in mind that your putting your life and money in the hands of the pilot/driver. I don't think anything needs any nerfing or restricting here.
2. This idea I like, I'll add it in the main post.
3. See 2. It could replace that, good idea btw.
4. Yes, I agree that they should fix that before implementing this.
8. See 3.
9. I am a pilot, I typically spend whole games flying a dropship with a CRU equipped, flying over objectives so people can drop down. I just never realized that there is a 1st person view. Have to check it out. But yes, a rear view camera would be much appreciated.
10. I agree with an actual RDV picking it up. I like this idea.
11. I hope you understand my position on this. For me, yes, a different control scheme will benefit me because I like to fly a dropship in the most easy and efficient manner possible. This will allow me to perform piloting tasks faster/more efficient than I currently can. I'm not saying I hate the controls, but I do prefer to have simpler controls.
12. Agreed. |
