I've had two ideas for Amarr weapons I've been mulling over and would love to see in DUST. I wanted to put them here to see how other people felt.
Tachyon Laser - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Modeled after the Tachyon Beam Lasers fitted on most Amarr Battleships the Tachyon Laser is a Heavy Weapon capable of firing a focused beam of Tacyhons to destroy any enemy infantry or materiel in front of it.
- Heavy Weapon - 2+ second charge time - 5 to 8 second beam time - Really high damage (fully heated Viziam pre-nerf) - Painfully slow turn speed while charging / firing - Overheat mechanic
This weapon would be anti-vehicle / anti-infantry. To keep it balanced it has a charge time and a painfully slow turn speed while firing. This makes it deadly against slow targets or faster targets at further ranges. It would simply be a "Giant Laser of Death" that, if fired at you, would kill you if you stand in it for more than a second. However, due to the slow turn speed and charge up time it would be very easy to avoid / counter with intelligent tactics. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Gamma Rifle - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Designed to counter the guerilla tactics used by the Minmatar during the Rebellion the Gamma Rifle fires a charged pulse of gamma radiation that is capable of penetrating solid objects. For Amarr doctrine this weapon ensures that the Reclaiming Light of the Lord can find even those cowardly enough to hide.
- Light Weapon - 1.5 second charge time - Moderate damage (100 to 150 per hit) - 40m range, 30m scope range (X Ray) - Small clip (4 to 5 per)
This weapon is pretty much the Farsight (Perfect Dark) or Auger (Resistance) in that it is capable of hiting targets through solid objects. It wouldn't do much DPS and would instead be more of an opportunity weapon, with kills / assists scored when targets get low on health and duck for cover. This would add an interesting mechanic to combat where players would have to decide between tanking the Gamma Rifle hits or dashing from cover and hoping to avoid the deadly Tachyon Laser that's sweeping across the room. The limited range / scope range would keep it limited to closer range combat and help ensure it doesn't turn into "OP Invincible Snipers OMG". Like all laser weapons it has a bright, distinctive, beam when fired (to help locate the shooter). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Cool +1 though I feel heavy suits would get messed up with the gamma rifle because we cannot get into or out of range and are thus more susceptible. If we flee an attacker could keeps a LOS through cover and move forward constantly damaging with no where to run, or back up If we attack cause medium suits backpedal faster than heavies move forward while keeping cover. |

Possibly. But with a short engagement range (40m or 30m scope range) and only doing 100-150 damage every 1.5 seconds they'll have a pretty tough time pushing the engagement (not that they can't). A full HP heavy has ~1.5K HP. So it would take them 10 shots which is 15 seconds + reload to kill one.
Like I said, the Gamma Rifle wouldn't be for bringing someone down from full to zero. Its for picking off wounded targets who are cowering behind cover begging their shields to regen faster. |

Boo for not having an idea for an Amarr sidearm.
I would love a laser-based SMG. |

For Tachyon bean I know what you are going for but I feel there should instead of a charge time instant firing, a 3-4 seond cool down period, beam should ffire for two seconds like the lasers from MechWarrior online which also are like the eve based lasers. |

Problem with that. If the Tachyon Beam could fire instantly the Heavy could vaporize a scout who jumps out from behind a corner instantly. Yes, the Heavy then has to wait two or three seconds for it to cool down but the threat is already dead. However, with the charge up, when that scout jumps out from behind the corner the Heavy then has to wait 2 seconds to charge before firing. This gives the scout time to deal damage and avoid the "Beam of Death" by either getting behind the heavy or behind cover.
I envision the Tachyon Beam as being able to kill someone within one full second of fire (ala pre-nerf Viziam). It's charge up and really slow turn speed keep it in check by ensuring that observant targets have time to scramble behind cover to avoid the "Death Ray".
It just sounds like such an Amarrian weapon. "Screw speed and cover! We're just going to continuously fire a freakishly huge and powerful laser at them until they run or die. Preferrably die." |
