it's more about finding a corp you may want to join, hopping in their public chat or recruitment thread, and making contact. each corp will guide you from there. knowledge of the game mechanics, above average gun game and full proto setup in a solid role is a basic requirement... assume 10mil SP as a bare minimum as an assault type as you need core and weapon skills relatively high to go toe-to-toe with PC teams.
raw kdr is just one element.. and a shallow one at that. but the most common element that people look at up front... whether your listed char kdr or your kdr over a specific period of tryout, and desired kdr sometimes varies based on role and SP level. in competitive play there are a lot of other factors to consider as well. and on the most competitive teams it's often about whether you can play a necessary role that they are short on.
the requirement that you fit in and get along is understood / obviously implied.

good luck. I feel like the SP gap between me and you guys is somehow unfillable and that for this reason the best corporations will never really find me interesting... (insert sad face). This is probably the only thing of DUST that really feels "unfair" to me. It's really not that like that to be honest. At some point there is only so much SP you can have impacting any given dropsuit. Probably the least for heavies (dropsuit, plates, reps, dmg mods, grenades, 2x weapons, core HP & fitting as required), then for assaults (add some equipment and skill sidearms), then scouts (need mobility mods), then logis (need to max equipment skills). ~10mil is sort of a good, round number baseline for assaults where it is assumed you have prototype modules to fit on your suit for at least one decent fit, a prototype suit, a prototype weapon, and core skills to at least IV.
After that, it's just about maxing out with very limited benefit in exchange for huge SP sinkage, and diversifying. After about ~15mil on an assault class most of the noticeable effects of "maximizing" have taken effect and people start diversifying.
[Edit: And the above is honestly commentary on PC-readiness ... at the pub match level you can have a ton of fun and rack up kills for quite less than 1million SP. Don't forget, this is a long-term game that will be around for years with constant updates, and with regular double and triple SP events and boosters you are talking around three months until you are well on your way to a quite solid proto setup. Don't fret... it's not "never"] |
