Why doesn't CCP add a weapon customization mechanic?
it would be pretty simple to be honest and could open a whole lot of aspects of the game for people to explore.
At the loudout options you would just add weapon to vehicle and dropsuits. From there you could customize a weapon much like you can dropsuits and vehicles.
The basic form of weapon customization would just be a sight slot, maybe a stock slot and internal mechanism slots. the IM slots would have fire rate modifiers. Lock on time and accuracy modifiers. Damage ratio modifiers (how much it effects shields and armour). Range modifiers (obviously would effect projectile velocity and damage). And obviously, Damage modifiers. Maybe you could add a 'Trait' slot to make a basic assault rifle into a breach, or tactical assault rifle, treating weapons exactly like drop suits.
A more advanced option might be added that could be added to dropsuits as well were parts could be found as battle rewards and these parts could be put together in various ways. So could could put a breach mechanism in (making a slow firing, high firepower weapon), tactical sight on it (from the tactical assault rifle), normal stock on it (that has a better recoil reduction than breach or tactical) and a tactical barrel (more accurate/predictable).
Adding the more advanced option could open up the idea of a scavenging in the inevitable horde mode.
You will made horde/PvE won't you CCP... you did say you would... |

To add to that, when choosing a weapon when adding a weapon to the dropsuits, you can flick through Marketplace (buy a stock weapon and add it automatically), Assets (stock weapons you own) and Customized (speaks for itself). |

Think how long EVE went before they added rigs and salvage type options. This will probably come to pass, but long term Soon(TM) for sure. |

I think having weapons with slots for fitting upgrades would be a great idea... Just kidding, I can just imagine all the ARs with damage mods and hip fire spread reduction mods jammed into them. Also, isn't this type of system already implemented somewhat through leveling specific skills in each weapon? |

If you are refering to modifiers then kind of, in the same way Minmatar Logis have improved hacking speed and armour repair despite there being armour repair modules already and codebreaker modules. |

I personally have no issue with "balance" and have no proto except for Equipment (working on ProtoRep). When I die it is usually because I was trying to help teammate or I did something I shouldn't have, so I am fine with saying I think no weapon is OP. But that being said.......
The forums are rife with OP this and nerf that as it is. We have (apparently) an imbalanced game as i stands right now, why exactly would we want to have more ways to make an OP [insert favorite] weapon even more OP (literally). Only doing it in a way that hides it's OP-ness behind mods, instead of getting a solid base before adding it?
Oh, wait. I think I've said too much. Disregard my statements in the second paragraph.
P.S. Don't we already have this with Assault/Tac/Breach/etc variations of most weapons as well as all racial variants eventually? |

The T3 weapon systems, are supposedly going to be a "build-it-your-way" kinda job, you get a basic frame for the weapon, then you choose your magazine casing, barrel type, firing mechanism, working assembly and of course your attachments.
So lets take the hmg as an example, you choose a dual mag cross threaded mag casing, gives incredibly fast ROF and high mag capacity, but reload speed is phenomally long, you add a long distance artillery barrel, gives your weapon a much higher optimal, and impressive av capabilities, but a lack of base damage makes it harder to use on infantry, then you go for a full auto firing mechanism, and a spooling working assembly, that speeds up ROF overtime, decreases heat but comes at the price of accuracy and ads, capabilities.
An av weapon built from the same frame/rig as the current hmg, pure simplicity!! |

P.S. Don't we already have this with Assault/Tac/Breach/etc variations of most weapons as well as all racial variants eventually? I don't think you quite understand how I explained my proposed system.
The first system is basically getting rid of traited weapons like breach, assault, and tactical and making them that way or a hybrid of those traits through modding it like you would dropsuits. Saying not to use that system is like saying don't use the dropsuit modifying system, and just choose your weapon on an array of already traited suits like a repair assault, revive assault, or uplink assault.
Removes alot of the personalization right? |

I don't see the same happening with vehicles and dropsuits. I can kind of accept it if they made it that the weapons get more customizable the more advanced they are, but to outright lock customization to T3's then CCP is going full ******.
Quote:you get a basic frame for the weapon, then you choose your magazine casing, barrel type, firing mechanism, working assembly and of course your attachments. I wanted to say a system like that but it sounds a bit out of place when the dropsuit AND vehicle loadouts use the same system; Weapons, low power modules and high power modules. Having a system that picks out each individual part would be too out of place. They could of easily done it with vehicles and probably done it with dropsuits.
But my interpretation of it isn't like yours were it seems like yours is like Borderlands were a part effects the netire gun and not its own part, if you know what I mean. I'll explain.
Quote:So lets take the hmg as an example, you choose a dual mag cross threaded mag casing, gives incredibly fast ROF and high mag capacity, but reload speed is phenomally long[/qoute] Magazine capacity, yes. Reload speed, yes. ROF, probably not, and if yes, the increase would be negligible. Quote:you add a long distance artillery barrel, gives your weapon a much higher optimal, and impressive av capabilities, but a lack of base damage makes it harder to use on infantry The barrel would do diddly squat to the performance of the bullet (or damage REALLY), turning from a copper bullet to an armour piercing bullet. It would just make it more accurate at short to medium range, far range being effected by wind once the kinetic energy dwindles. [quote]then you go for a full auto firing mechanism, and a spooling working assembly, that speeds up ROF overtime, decreases heat but comes at the price of accuracy and ads (presume Aim Down Sight) capabilities.
Again, the mechanism (both firing and spooling) would do diddly to the damage, ADS or accuracy, simply effecting the ROF and heat.
The other reason that critiziing your post reminded me is that due to there being electromagnetically (EM) driven weapons, as well as 'projectile' (bullets with gunpowder) means that each part would work differently, meaning the HMG (projectile) barrel would simply effect accuracy, while the Assault rifle (hybrid) would effect damage and accuracy and the scrambler (EM) would effect just damage (and probably focal point), and the laser rifle (EM) would be focal point (and probably damage).
Making the system you proposed would be WAY too complicated. |

This merely specculation from another topic like this, this as hearsay and rumour as everything else, but basically a while back an image was released, showing the hmg and smg, with basic frame and couple outcomes you could build.
T3 means tech 3, and is basically the number of iterations of the weapons system, wd are on T2 now, and T1 was long before I was here.
If they do a weapon customization option it will be for all tiers. Asc for different parts having effects, well you need negatives to the positives, and of course a barrel could determine bullet size, ylu want the roujd to benifit from rifiling so the bigger the barrel, the bigger the round!!
Besides this were merely an example, I could really do with the image, but I cant find it, sorry |
