Tallen Ellecon wrote:Almost every module has some kind of penalty for stacking, most just have an effectiveness reduction. Adding some kind of penalty to shields would be good in principle, but hopefully not so significant to make shields unwanted all together, something on par with the armor penalties. If my Gallente Logi stacks 5 complex armor plates I will slow to a crawl so I think a Calrdari logi with 5 Complex shield extenders should light up like a christmas tree. The addition of shield modules similar to the new armor plates would definately bring a degree of balance.
I'm not trying to nerf shields, I just think that stacking one type of module should always have a drawback of some form. Right now I have no reason to not stack 3 complex shield extenders onto my Gal Logi Suit, I'd at least think twice or diversify.
Edit: I forgot that the penalty would be recharge delay, I'm still in an EVE mindset soemtimes. I still think the signature idea is a good idea. |

Nah. Speed and health recharge is our benefit. Gallente has more HP and more potential damage output. :). |

the shield recharge delay for shield extenders seems like the best penalty for shielding..
ive fought so many players whos shields seems to recharge almost instantly after being hit... |

shields make you a more profound target making it easier to scan you even without active scanners maybe? unless already implemented |

With aim assist you should be able to handle shield tankers after a bit of practice. Just keep hitting them and chasing them before they can get in cover for long periods of time and their shield regen should not pose too much of a problem.
Shield extenders are fine I think. |

Shields are currently bugged to start regen x seconds after the first hit, rather than x seconds after the last hit. |

Funny how much better armor is and people are still asking for a shield nerf? Funny I run a Carthum and even the best shield tankers get owned. How about not using a mass driver all the time and switching to something that does a decent amount of shield damage. Honestly armor stacks over twice as much as a complex shield extender with barely any movement penalty any more and they can stack damage mods without sacrificing their tank. get over it already. |

probably the only thing that needs to be fixed with shields. |

Whoa whoa whoa stop saying "using the mass driver" as a derogatory term!! Besides its fine the bonus hp to armour means its pretty balanced, and dont forget ferroscale plates are almost identical to sheild extenders!! |

It's okay. OP.
With things as they are. Shield tanking doesn't really need any penalties. It's a fragile form of defense, but it bounces back quick, as it should.
It's for speed assaults.
No need for an additional. |

I think shields are kind of underpowered really. Armor gets more love than shields right now. Not to mention the increased use of flux grenades i've been seeing lately. All my suits are armor tanks. |

As an armor tanker have you ever fought from a nest of healing nanohives? Or with a core focused repair tool on you?
Try that as a shield tanker and see how long you last.
The disadvantage to shields is that for medium frames, you can only get up to 588 HP in shields with a 20 HP/sec recharge rate (Cal Logi with 5 extenders) or 582 HP with 31.25 HP/sec recharge rate (Cal Assault with 4 extenders). Except for the Charybdis, there is nothing that repairs shields so you have to sit and wait in cover hoping your enemy doesn't run up and kill you while you are recharging.
Choosing not to use regulators means that your shields will take 14/13 seconds respectively to begin to recharge once you are fluxed.
Also, pure shield tankers are very vulnerable when rezzed with nanite injectors; even with the proto needle, the max armor that can be recovered on the Cal Assault is around 120 HP - that's what, 4 shots with an AR? |

My point was that shield extenders are the only module with no drawback to stacking. |

If shield extenders and armor plates gave the same amount of HP for basic/advanced/complex, you might have an argument. But they don't.
If you want to change it so that complex shield extenders get 148.5 HP (after skill bonus) but have a penalty of 5% increase to shield delay per extender to mimic the armor movement penalty, you have my full support. |

Shields are fine the way they are. Also they already sortoff have a penalty: they cost more PG/CPU to use compared to armor plates. |
