I have been playing around with different suits and the most surprising was the BPO. Specifically my Gallante starter BPO. I added a GEK to the suit and went 17-2 in the suit. I was taking out heavies, advance and proto's with ease. This should not be, its like buying a Toyota Corolla and out performing a Formula 1 Race car. A starter fit should just be that, a beginning step to new and better gear. I know it is aim assist, but I was not using aim assist. It seems these days that shields and armor deplete faster than in the past. So my point is, until they fix this issue I am running my BPO suit and putting the ISK away. Some day I hope I have something to spend it on that will not be a waste after a patch comes out. |

You changed it to a GEK. A new player cant get a GEK, plus any CORE upgrades you skilled into are applied also making the starter fit better. |

This is true, but it's an "Advanced" gun so they don't get it right off the bat and in a free fitting. It needs to be skilled into and bought. |

Don't forget about your core upgrades. Your free fitting is more like an advanced free fitting.
If I create a free "assault - medic" fitting, it should have: CPU-175 PG-30 Shield-180 Armor-180
But because I've skilled into things, my fitting actually has: CPU-227 PG-36 Shield-272 Armor-225

Glad someone understands, aim assist alone isnt the problem, it needs a little tonning down but it wont retrun any form of semblance. You see if aim assist were the real problem, people would be running tacs and scr rifles, their comparitive strength to the full auto is to outclass it as long as you are accurate!! The problem is with ar in theirmcurrent stare, jts not that you cant miss, its you canmafford to miss, when a mag will drop a heavy you might as well just empty it into an assault and let statistics do the rest!! |

So what your saying is, Ccp just added back in hundreds of new items that are viable? It's not just proto vs proto now. What's the point if having mlt, and std gear if it is not supposed to kill you.
I personally enjoy the fact that my cheaper suits are viable again. And I can still drop in my proto sets when I want an extra edge. |

You say that like militia couldn't kill you before. If you think so, you've not met many militia forges I imagine.
I think the point of the thread was to illustrate, if bpo's/militia are as effective as adv/proto, what is the point of skilling into higher tiers? |

A prime example that its about your character development is more important than the gear you use.
I can do just as good with a starter fit, because of my character skills. AR spec'd, higher HP, etc... It gets you a lot of hate mail, lol. Because you're a wolf in sheep's clothing. |

The passive bonuses that big SP players have make these suits pretty powerful in this build.
Newer players can use better gear to compete, but the vets will be farming ISK from them. |

Wrong the economy is not supposed to be built around you using your best gear all the time, your supposed to use basic stuff and pull out the best of the best kit for when its needed. And the differences with MLT and Pro gear should not be worlds apart. The Balance with suit tiers is fine. PRO gear should not carry a bad player. |

The point is that Proto gear was never designed to be as popular as it is. And it certainly was never designed to make any player an offensive or defensive juggernaut.
Proto gear...or any higher tier gear is designed to give a player a slight advantage. The slight advantage, say one would need in a more competitive setting. Or for a special instance...like, you are in a highly contested match and in order to edge ahead you HAVE to take this one more point...so you and your team all switch to Proto gear to make the push and capture the point.
The problem is because outside of vehicles...there is not proper ISK sinks in the game. Players can run fairly advanced fittings each and every match and still make a profit or at least break even. The abundance of advanced fittings has become 'the norm' when it was never intended to be so.
I never understood why they lowered the prices on advanced and prototype gear. It has only helped facilitate the above scenario.

Correct, Im loving the fact that my cheap fits are viable again. DGAF about kdr, so doing well in a match and staying isk positive is a good thing. if you want to bring out your "Formula 1 Race Car" It will give you an edge, but my "Toyota Corolla" will still get me to the finish line.
Pub tactic #212 Enemy team is heavily equiped in expensive Prototype gear. Switch to your Cheap suit and Spam. maintain a 1 kill per 1 death. They will back down after they have lost enough isk. I have seen it many times.

Yeahhhhh so basically you want it to be impossible for new players to kill older players right? No, that's not a good thing. This game is by far the most forgiving MMO out there simply because anyone can kill anyone at any tier if they get lucky enough. Can a starter fit kill a proto fit?? yes, but theres got to be some reason to justify that other then "starter fits are OP" Because I doubt that is the case..... as other people said, you have your core skills and a geck. That makes the suit much better then it really would be without those skills. |
