I don't mind aim-assist in this game and I like the fact that finally the hit detection has been resolved. The problem is that the aim-assist we have now is too over the top. Let me elaborate.
Hit detection is when you point a gun a me dead on. And I mean precisely dead on and every bullet (so long as I don't move away) hits me as intended. The problem with the currently aim-assist system is that you can point the gun just about 1 foot to my left or to my right and every one of those bullets will still hit me. CEOPyrex posted a video about that and it was ridiculous. |

Not really. Do you play Halo? The aim-assist in that game is balanced. The aim-assist as it is now in Dust is way over the top. It needs to be brought back down to Halo levels. |

Abby Invo wrote:Additionally, modern Halo games have extensive aim assist in the form of bullet magnetism whereby your shots withing a certain proximity of an enemy actually home in on the enemy. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWaDwsGb1c0
I don't think that's an accurate assessment. I have been playing Halo since the birth of Halo: Combat Evolved, through Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Reach, and now Halo 4. And I still play Halo every week with my friends on game night.
From my own experience and observations over the years, the aim assist works by slightly nudging your weapon as the enemy passes by your reticule. It's like a slight track to help you with aiming on a console controller. And I have been testing this on every weapon. The sniper rifle, binary rifle, DMR, SAW, assault rifle, tactical rifle, covenant carbine, rocket launcher, needler, etc. The only two weapons that have any kind of homing ability for their ammo alone is either the rocket launcher (after locking on) or the covenant needler.
In Dust, the aim assist we have now is turning bullets into magnets. The aim assist was support to nudge the gun, not the bullets. |

Abby Invo wrote:What are the minute markers for his footage with aim assist? All I saw in skimming the first video was a single case of shoddy hit detection and possibly server latency that he immediately laid at the feet of the new "aimbot".
Damn it, it didn't copy the proper link. I told the browser to copy the link at the specified time, but instead it just copied the old link without the time. It's about about 1:15 or 1:40 into the video of the first link.
The second link is all about the aim assist. |
