good try CCP, its appreciated, I personally thought it was a bad idea and wouldn't work, and its not...
I think all the matchmaking QQERS realize it now as well.
so good try, thanks you sure showed them the error of their matchmaking requests.
now lets get back to killing each other instead of waiting forever to get in a match.

actually a gear restriction would work better than most ppl think..
the many times this idea has been shot down is because ppl r afraid of being unable to use their more powerful weaponry...
but the way the gear restriction would be implemented wouldnt change much as it would be like this.
instant battle skirmish: militia only.. instant battle skirmish: mlt-std instant battle skirmish: mlt-advanced instant battle skirmish: mlt-proto...
that is how the gear restriction should work and be implemented onto the battle finder.....
its basically a simple solution to a complex problem..
and i think it wouldnt be to hard to implement. |

a gear restriction is still better over all as far as im concerned...
although its basically a tier restriction..
the skill levels of each player will differ a lot.. its not effective to just do matchmaking just based on sp, wp, or skill level alone...
those systems r abused way to many times so much its not funny..but with a gear restriction the only major difference wouldnt be gear.. it would be total amount of sp.... and that should be the only difference on the game..for a gear restriction.. |

At least then he wouldn't be matched up against a bunch of prototypes. It would still be better than anything we've had so far.

that's not the point though... the point is its too many restrictions, sure the militia guy can jump into an std, but what if everyone is playing adv? sure the guy can swap out the armor repper but that means making a whole new suit with all std gear, one with all adv gear one with all militia gear... instead of one suit mixed... it seriously restricts players... I for example run an all bp logi suit with 1 set of std remotes and 1 set of adv remotes... so this means I cant run my adv remotes? why? its just not sensible for a game with so many gear choices to then restrict you for a match... a better choice would be to toggle matchmaking I guess....
let those who want it to run it and those who don't to not. |

but the matchmaking parameter would just end up being increased..
plus its possible to edit fitting and swap out the gear..
u dont always have to make an entirely new fitting...
u may have to spend more trying to create a fitting for the lower tiers if u r already running high tiered fittings.. or mixed fittings..
the instant battle: mlt-proto would basically be the same as the current game modes we have now..so this type of gear restriction would allow for m4 flexibility in a few ways...and place players onto more even playing fields..it would also allow the newer players enough time to learn how to play... and they will be able to get into tiered areas when they think they r ready...its not that complex if u think about it... |

the only way and SP system creates a gap is if the system is based off tiers and not a dynamic system. if you are at either end of the spectrum (little SP or High SP) then on low pop days you end up playing a little high or a little low respectively. if you do a gear system when there's a low population no one will play ever because of gear restrictions. and to ask me to run militia just to play cuz of populations isn't fair.
and an SP system does not have to be complex to pair people respectively. if you're queued, your SP goes into the pool of players and once 32 people in close range get paired, the game starts. |

No to gear-based matches. It shouldn't be based on SPs either. It should be based on what your average rank is at the end of the match. There will be players who are amazing with crappy gear and low SP, and others who suck with tons of SP and full proto. A good matchmaker would pair up people based on player performance. That should yield the best balance.
Also CCP could dynamically expand the parameters depending on wait times. The most important factor isn't the size of the gap from how good the best player in the match relative to the worst player is, but that the talent is evenly distributed between both teams so that both sides have fairly equal strength. This will produce close fights and reduce proto stomping, as would a major increase in the price of proto suits (they're supposed to be for important matches, not meaningless ones). |

and lets be honest, proto stomping doesn't happen to any of us all the time, and with a little attention paid to who youre up against in the war barge you could leave a gaurunteed stomp easy. |

If you have an adv module or equipment or anything you would be restricted to the avd and proto matches. That way if someone just wanted to run MLT to make money they wouldn't get prototypes killing them. The higher tiered matches could have higher payouts to insentivize actually doing them. This would also help with new player retention as no ones first experience straight out of the academy would be them getting slaughtered by protobears. I admit the MLT matches might be underpopulated, but there would probably be a good bit of STD matches they could join. 1 mlt dude in a std match stands a lot better chance than a mlt dude against a bunch of photos. This way actual player skill would determine matches, instead player pocketbook sizeand their gear. |

the sp system wouldnt really change a thing
players may have differing sp levels with the gear restriction but the main point of it all is the fact that even if one player has more sp than the other they r still restriction to the same gear...
they player with more sp may have an advatange to those that do not have that amount of sp but they r operating with in the same gear..
those modules will make a bigger difference to the varying suits hp level overall instead of a certain skill...
and if the skill and modules r combined that makes the module even more powerful...
which is why an sp system wouldnt work well.
players will normally spec into the proto versions of the most powerful weaponry but the gear restriction would only mean that player with the op gun wont have his super gun to use against the new berries he would be on the same playing level along with the other players..and if he wants to use his super gun he would end up going against other players with super guns...
so the gear restriction balances itself out in the end...and i think this system might just bring more players to the game and get them to stay.. |

3. MLT,STD,ADV only: Current Payout x1.33
4. No Restrictions: Current Payout x1.66
SP gain would be the same across the board, to disincentivize AFKers.
