NOTE: Now, I had prepared this long list of different features every engine offers and what makes them unique but I decided to scrap it whenever I hit the CryEngine 3 and it's MASSIVE amount of features. So, sorry guys - research on your own time, I've got **** to do.
Now, the majority of these are known First Person Shooter engines with some exclusions (Halo, Destiny and Killzone use un-named in-house engines, for example) I've also added the Carbon Engine, developed by CCP, as an option. While it is not used for FPS purposes, I am interested to see how many people vote for it.
Which Engine would you want it to be made with?
A.) Frostbite (Developed by DICE - Used in the Battlefield franchise)
B.) CryEngine (Developed by Crytek - Used in the Crysis franchise)
C.) Forgelight (Developed by SOE - Used in Planetside 2)
D.) Source (Developed by Valve - Used in Half-Life franchise)
E.) IW Engine (Developed by Infinity Ward - Used in Call of Duty franchise)
F.) Carbon Engine (Developed by CCP Games - Used in Eve Online)
Take your votes! |

I have see the cry engine in gameplay from MWO a lot. I haven't seen nearly as many issues with it. They even have defense systems where i get hit for partial damage not full damage. I dont think that this engine is even capable of such a thing. Maybe its just me but this game seems to have the worst engine i have seen in a very long time. |

I have this absurd hope that they are working on a Carbon version for the PS4 and this version is just for getting the numbers right.

They originally were going to use Carbon engine when the idea was to put it on PC. Whenever they decided to go with console instead they ran into a problem. The first was the issue with Microsoft so no Xbox. The second was the fact that while Carbon works well for EvE. Trying to shoehorn it onto consoles and FPS was a bit of an issue apparently. Carbon can be resource intensive thus the fact it's being used for CQ. The rest of the ones you listed would require A: Large royalties to the companies who own those engines B: It would require them scrapping the Unreal+Carbon mix they're using now and completely remaking the game from scratch almost. |

Edit also we'd have FAR more interaction with Eve already and WAY faster development process if DUST was developed on Carbon ... since CCP developed it. |

CryEngine all the way. But if they ever decide to do an open world thing, I think Fox engine will be great. Oh, and btw, everything would be better than this semi-custom UE 3. |

i hope this gets on PS4
F.) Carbon Engine (Developed by CCP Games - Used in Eve Online)
or NOT Unreal FUKIN Engine
UE fukin SUCKS in EVERY game
characters are bulky , terrain and corners stucking , low res texture when you begin an area after loading screen , jaggy
SPEC OPS the line uses UE , good game but low res textures ALWAYS appear when game starts , looks like a playstation 2
Silent Hill Downpour uses UE , you get stuck in corners and low res in the begining of a area, this low res stuff is in almost all UE games
i HATE with a passion UE , it fukin SUCKS i dont know why it gets all praise , must be cheap or easy to work with
Batman games use UE , bulky bulk bulk characters

wait wait. If you're developing a game for non commercial purposes it's free..otherwise.... it's the same for Unity and CryEngine |

CryEngine.
MechWarrior online uses CryEngine and its a fanatastic mech combat game. I would love to see lots of swarming foot soldiers try to combat Tanks, Mechs, etc on CryEngine. |

While some of the these engines are indeed nice to haves, could you imagine cryengine 3 !?!?
The unreal engine is by far the most practical choice for a persistant game, unreal engines have abnormally long life span, highly attributable to its optimization possibilities. Unreal 3 has been around almost as long as the ps3, and is still improving! The move to unreal 4 somewhere down the line will be relatively straightforward, there is a large support base both in from unreal and other developers, its cheap and relatively easy to program, and every game on it can be completely different because of its ability to almost assimilate othet engines!
An ode to how far its come, look up the character models on XCOM ENEMY UNKOWN, there used to be a time when all player models looked like that no matter what you did, or how about team fortress if I memory serves that to is built on an unreal engine!!
CCP couldn't have made a better choice!, |

Cry Engine can't handle large amounts of people though. And if CCP gets this to the point of open roam sandbox then you'd see Cry Engine crying in agony.

There are licensing agreements you can go into. Titanfall, for instance, is made by many of the developers who worked on Call of Duty - but it operates on Valve's Source engine. Something I find incredible considering the graphical superiority that Titanfall shows when compared to other Source games.

Oh but with next gen consolles they'd better take an engine swap seriously....unless they want to work with UE 4 |

I heard that they originally deved dust in Carbon, so that is what I think would be the obvious choice.
Plus CCP has experience in working with carbon, so less chance for hiccups and bugs. |

Preferably the Carbon Engine because it would be familiar to CCP. But Forgelight would be sufficient, it looks great and is built with many players in mind. |
