You don't have to put it like that. Overall, the vast majority of the IVY LEAGUE alliance is practically Eve Online corporations. The alliance chat could become useful if, as an example, faction warfare gets overhauled and then perhaps privileged Dust players can call in some help from above for a faction match. Who knows? We'll just have to wait and see. |

It not a matter of "don't talk to neckbeards", I'm sure some of them are actually almost like people. (Of course, this is only a theory)
In larger corps, Alliance chat is usually reserved for "Official Business" interactions.
It honestly shouldn't be available to anyone below a Dust-side director.
If you don't show respect, you are less likely to receive it. |

If Dust Uni is anything like Eve uni it should have a few independent chat channels. Also Alliance chat is the fastest way for an alliance to transfer important to everyone, it's important to keep the chatter to a minimum. |

Alliance chat IS allowed for regular chatting, if your alliance doesn't comprise of a few thousand pilots. In larger alliances, it's always important to have a medium of official communication that doesn't get cluttered up with random sperging by scrubs going "RF2" "LFS PROTO ASS". Some alliances decide to alliance chat because it's real time. Some alliance don't have that rule, and some do.
It's not so much EVE players being 'elite' as the above. |

Just imagine this, your only chat channel is alliance chat, EVE pilots get all the chat channels. You only get 1. You want to look for a squad but each time you post "LFS", it gets drowned out by "frigate fleet going on patrol at blah blah blah system" then you have no way of getting an organized squad together In a reasonable amount of time.
Now from an eve point of view. Alliance chat is used for mostly class times, lecture times and of course, fleet movements. That is all, it's not a hard rule. We have numerous chat channels for just that: chatting. The letters the OP is referring to is most likely because we had a large income of new members. Whenever this happens, there is always a flurry of mail sent out. |

Would it really be too difficult to just do something similar??? Then you have no need to tell people not to post in a certain channel... simply because they won't be in it at all if its for EVE use. I mean its really rather hilarious that you limit players from looking to squad up with alliance members since your too lazy to create a channel for exclusively for important information and EVE side war planning. |

Allow me to illuminate a couple facts for you:
1. Dust University is the ONLY Dust 514 corporation in the Ivy league alliance.
2. Im aware of SIX d-uni channels available to members
3. ALL Dust University mercs are kindly asked to not use the alliance chat. Ive lost track of the times ive received that corp-wide mail...
To summarize:
@lazy Custom chats have existed for ~6months
@hilarious No other merc corps in alliance to miss out on squadding with
@noneed Currently no need to post in alliance. Auto-boot after 3rd blatant incident is the current line in the sand
1300+ member find this simple request easy to follow, however there will always be those who prefer not to be oppressed by such draconian elitism..we wish them the best.

I know several chat channels right off the bat that d-uni directors have established for such a use. Yet we do occasionally see players posting lfs requests in the alliance chat. Thankfully, since we have a good structure in place, not many members commit that mistake. Most of those that do tend to learn really fast not to do it again. |

Alliance chat is used strictly for events. The alternatives are: trying to get hundreds of people in corp chat to be quiet so you can talk, and trying to get hundreds of people to join and stay in a player made chat channel. Neither of those are really feasible on the scale that Eve Uni operates, so sacrifices must be made. |
