This instantly reminded me of these forums:
Quote:"Haters keep buyin' GÇö that appears to be the dynamic playing out in the ever-hot video game industry, where game developers say harassment and trolling from their rabid fans is turning them off of development completely, according to a report over at Polygon.com. 'Fans are invested in the stories and worlds that developers create, and certain design decisions can be seen by fans to threaten those stories and worlds,' said Nathan Fisk, lecturer at the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and co-author of the book Bullying in the Age of Social Media. 'Harassment silences and repositions content creators in ways that protect the interests of certain fan groups, which again is no justification for the kinds of abusive behavior and language seen online today.' The problem is widespread enough that it may even pose a threat to the future of the industry. Developers, both named and those who wish to remain anonymous, tell Polygon that harassment by gamers is becoming an alarmingly regular expected element of game development. Some developers say the problem was among the reasons they left the industry, others tell Polygon that the problem is so ubiquitous that it distracts them from making games or that they're considering leaving the industry."

I read somewhere, I think a City of Heroes dev said it, that it takes game developers two months of work to create content that players will burn through in two weeks. |

Been saying this for a long time to gamers. Your words, whether positive or negative, affect the developers. Take some consideration in how you express yourself with developers. I'm not saying to kiss butt, but at the same time, no need to go into some tirade and respond with hostility. After all, we are in this together. |

That is interesting. Of course, the console market (Not all of it) is slightly more...Angry. But at the same time, I don't know how I should feel about people quitting because some immature kids hurt their feelings.
Remember High School? Most of us don't. It was kind of like that, but we weren't allowed to quit. Now you're getting paid to do something you presumably enjoy, and someone talking bad about you or your mother hurts your feelings enough to throw away your job? That's...That's really something. |

abuse isnt limited to a single occasion, it can go on for years, and when the name of a Dev is known can infect more than just a games forums.
often abuse will personally attack various attributes of a "hated" dev, and as just seen over at CoD-land direct threats over social media threatening harm to a Devs children and wife.
How seriously should that dev take such language?... should he wait until something actually happens to his family? .. how much of that type of stress, day in and day out, across FB with pages dedicated to hating on you, to your Twitter account, the game forums the Studio Forums, the distributor's forums and industry forums both ameteur and business.
internet bullying has become so inset with so many facets of the gamer community ... its embarrassing to admit that ones a gamer in certain company :P
And it all starts here..... on the forums. |

It's what happens when you make a game based on the same concepts and mechanics as older games instead of making something fresh and dynamic. I don't pity them. |

Well, psychoterror can totally ruin a life and thats for sure, everybody who claims this is wrong doesn't know about what they are talking.
But now comes the big but(t): if ccp and us are a team, why do we rarely get informations and why do we always have to wait for big gaming events to get the big news?i mean its not like most of us check the forums 3 times + a day.
What I do see is that devs and cpms seem to be more active in the last weeks. That a good thing and a step on the right direction, but still just a step.
You cant just blame the community for its behavior. Its not that simple and most people here are just frustrated. I started Dust with open Beta and even in this stage I never really knew what was going on with the dev side, neither I felt heard.
If CCP really wants to avoid problems like OP stated above some things need to change.
We are the playerbase, for sure we are no developers and we just know the consuming Side of video games, but nonetheless we understand and we see problems.
If the community and devs are playing on the same team why do I have to get informations about Dust fm third party sides and not from the official Dust forums? Why do I dont see timetables? A small insight about hot topics for the devs and the feeling that our opinion matters? You want patience? Thats how you earn it.
CCP is always claiming they work so good with their community, and still I cant say this, atleast not since open beta. When I write a huge ass feedback mail to CCP the anseers is like this: " blabla labla we cant use it here, pls go to forums blabla la thank you bla" oh really I should post it on the forums where this feedback will be insta forgotten, discussed and criticised or simply ignored, and I will never know if somebody from CCP actialy reads it or if it got noticed.
I dont want to sound unfair, and I dont want to say we are innocent. All I am saying is that this community is like a school class which got promised to go on the most exciting trip they ever will have, and right now we are locked in a small cellar with turned of light, and now tell me you wonder why the mood is aggressive...
Its easy to blame somebody alone for a problem, but its hard to admit that this is not such a simple case, things need to change, on both sides.

So you're mad because wrote a huge ass feedback and you got two sentences?? LOL!! And then you're asking a unique developer to follow the code that every other developer follows with, I hope, full knowledge of how CCP develops their games?
And why is it that CCP is more involved within Dust chats than they are forums?
The problem is the majority of you who writes feedback thinks your ideas are completely awesome. Most of the time they are not. They are either short sighted or basically nothing more than adjustments to help you kill more.
I'm pretty sure CCP reads the forums (even though they don't answer your every beckoning and call), it's evident in the Academy changes, implementations of daily log in bonuses, fixes to murder taxi, hit detection, and doing some touching up on the looks.
And what in the world is up with that analogy?? So you're like a school kid who is fretting because the school has postponed their zoo trip?? Sorry but that sounds silly.
How come only a few can understand that what CCP is offering is going to take time. Why can't yall understand that? It's really, really simple to comprehend. |

Hrmm, rather bland for the excuse.
I wonder what the correlation is between developers releasing broken unfinished games and the level of angst among the playerbase; and saying that we are un-happy just doesn't cut it an arguement or a heated discussion. When somebody makes a mistake in the world their boss comes down on them, they might even lose their job.... but then in that world there are consequences that can not be hidden behind binding arbitration by the party that wronged us. It would be like if the Legend of Zelda the first one on the nes, had a glitch whereby you could never get to Ganon or like the original Metroid Games 32 digit code with the same 8bit O & 0 being identical.
These companies have teams of lawyers making it so that short of a villian coming out of the game and raising heck they are not liable for anything. With that in mind I believe as a end-user with no choice in any chance of having a grievance addressed, that they will be forced to listen to my venomous diatribes about how they can't do anything right. The degree to which the game is broken often relates to the level of language used.
The only difference in this is that ccp has their rabid fan base of eve players, who believe in them. I have lost the faith and am eagerly awaiting september 17th for a different game of two. So instead of a concentrated effort ccp has divided the playerbase and thus you see the nonsense going on around here. |

Lol thats a perfect confirmation for my cellar theory. Dude sorry to say it this harsh but if you dont know what you talk about you better stfu and gtfo.
The feedback I wrote was regarding to hitdetection on the single shot SCR, so if I want that every shot who actually is on my target is also hitting my target is a shortview and doesnt make sense in long term, I should quit Dust fast as a lightning lol. I wrote a big lettr with numerous examples, tried to say where the problem might come from and how to change this issue, thats what I call a feedback.

Your feedback IS important to CCP. Just because they may not respond to you personally does not mean they have not read it or taken it into consideration. But again, repeating what the guy you responded to said, EVERYONE has feedback, ideas and requests. You can't just arbitrarily claim that you feel unheard, since the feedback or suggestion you provided may not be in the best interest of the game, or CCP might judge it that way.
Alternatively, you could also check out other gaming forums and see how much interaction and input from players there are. Most of them are just "We understand and will get back to you", which is pretty much standard fare.
The reason you don't see devs in game, is because CCP staff do not play under their CCP characters. Instead they have anonymous characters and are not allowed to let regular players know which ones they are. In fact, when CCP hires devs from the playerbase, those players are made to retire their characters and only use them after they stop working for CCP.
Well done on your feedback, but stop snapping at other people just because you feel unlistened to in a gaming forum. |

Hey I just stated my opinion, feelings and experience since open beta, and I said whats wrong in my opinion.
Its an opinion, theres no need for dicussion, and i know that different gaming forums look way different. I'm just trying to help here and I just dont feel like to discuss with arguments like "you dont know what you are talking about" thats the attitude which kills a game. I didnt wanted to cause trouble but if you dont know what kind of feedback I gave why do you need to make the assumption my feedback was stupid?
Personally im here for fun and helping dust. This topoc is about cyber bullying and it has one thing in commom with regular bull ing it always comes from a lack of communication.thats no big science. And again I'm just stating my personal experience and opinion, thata nothing qhat could be discussed, thats the reason why I reacted the way I did. All I tried is to help and Theres no need to attack me for this just because someone makes bad assumptions.
Guys you need to chill out, not me, i'm no even able to play dust since 3 weeks thanls to big provider issues. And no qorries my sexual life is all good my girlfriend is standing right next to me, but thanks for the care.

All I can say is HTFU... Seriously I deal with bitchy customers all day but I don't let it get to me, why would a developer? What kind of pansies are people raising these day's?
I work in the service industry and have had customers yell, scream and physically threaten me, but do I go home and cry myself to sleep or quit my job? **** no, I'm bigger than that, and if I did I'd be letting them win. Also I'm talking about live person to person interaction not simply reading vitriolic rage posted by a faceless name on an internet forum. |

Ah, but the difference is, if someone IRL bitches around, you can just reach out and punch them in the face And any death threats made IRL can be dealt with easily IRL.
Anonymity + death threats is kinda different though. |

Not if you intend to keep receiving a paycheck and not endure a lawsuit/criminal charges for assault and battery...It's called being the bigger man, letting it roll off your back and walk away. At best I have the option to refuse service.
Death threats made online in this day and age are taken just as seriously as in real life. |

our devs worked with the EVE community for years, I am sure they are immune to whatever we throw at them. |
