Yes it happens with the other weapons, but it is a rare occurrence. I'd say only once out of every 15 or so matches will an AR, or SCR, or SMG get the dreaded "blue flare" when shooting an enemy that the game thinks at the time is friendly and thus register no damage.
With the shotgun this is constant and happens more than I can count offhand in just a single match. It sucks getting the drop on someone and sneaking or flanking behind them to unload a shotgun blast that does NOTHING to them which results in your death as they whirl around and light you up.
My question is why is it the shotguns that are so heavily affected by this? |

Surprisingly I haven't run into the issue with the Nova Knives...at least not yet. |

You are lucky then for many killing moving targets with NKs is damn near imposible due to hit detection no working correctly |

My (totally uninformed) guess is that hit detection isn't necessarily disproportionately bad with the shotgun, but the consequences are far more noticeable. Every 5th bullet from an assault rifle failing to register may get lost in the stream of bullets, but having 20% of shotgun blasts not hit the target is going to be very obvious, and detrimental to the person pulling the trigger. |

You'd be surprised how many bullets fail to register across all guns, based from my own experience, I'd say about 15-20% fail to register. Its more obvious on single shot and high RoF weapons like the sniper rifle and SMG. Shotgun is pretty tricky to do, lots of games have problems with shotty hitreg like DICE's battlefield series. |

It happens with the AR & Tac pretty much every match for me. It's harder to notice with the AR because it doesn't do much damage with each individual shot but I'd say about 1/4th of each clip never registers. It's easy to notice with the Tac because each shot takes a big chunk out of the person you're shooting at and I'd say about 1/3rd of a clip doesn't register. |

I've also noticed the Auto Scramblers are pretty godawful with their hit detection, but overall the shotgun is the most noticeable probably because the user expects a OHK or a large chunk of health to be taken yet sometimes nothing happens at all. |

My 2 faves are the Shotty and HMG. Chromosome, I would 20/0 on a regular basis with shotguns. Now, it can easily end up the opposite. Like you said, 1 match will be glorious. The next 17 are trash.
HMG isn't all that bad. It has it's moments of absolute BS, but nothing nearly as bad as the shotguns.
Supposedly, 1.4 has some fixes. Can't wait to see. |

Shotguns are always prone to hit detection, the weapon has to model multiple shots and there spread, sometime this can cause a hang in the calculation, the only way to stop is throw an exception and terminate the command, effectively this means the shot never happened. However hit ditection will see major improvements since 1.4!! |

I guess it is directly related to the distance between players. The closer you get, the faster the rotation speed need to be for the player tracking and shooting. Add this to lag and you get a much significant issue when up close.
Like looking at a car going at 100km/h. If it is 100m away from where you are, it will look to be going fast, but not as fast as if it is passing 1m from your toes. If you blink your eyes for 10ms, you will still see the car at 100m, but the one at 1m will have passed in your field of view already.
So basically, CQC weapon suffer more than long range ones. |

I have hit soooo many targets with my shotgun for zero damage. Half the reason why some of these guys even stand a chance. It's because in THIS game input lag also has a extreme effect. Playing in 480 helps a lot but hurts my eyes after awhile. As I have not had to wait for mommy to get me a TV for quite some time have been playing on HD far too long to be able to just play on SD all the time.

Because of the way it shoots. Imagine this, Imagine 30% of your shots have issues. Now imagine the guns that are pray and spray like the HMG, SMG, AR, and ASCR since most of their shots are missing from spraying it is less noticeable to see when you hit but miss. Now lets look at the shotgun, since most of its shots are in a cone or in a radius, many shots are meant to miss by design, the ones that do hit 30% will suffer from hit detection, that leaves you with maybe 2-3 shots that are succesful. So basically to get any good shots for a shotgun you have to get the reticle completely centered and be very close. Of course that leaves the other guns which are explosives weapons, those might suffer from hit detection as well but people don't go for direct shots they go for splash which is 100% accurate. |

I've noticed that hit detection is at its worst with the shotgun when the reticle only partially covers the target. That's not to say it isn't terrible when fully covering the target, because it is, but that's just when I've noticed it to be at its worst. I'll echo whats been said previously; I don't think the hit detection with the shotgun is any worse than any other weapon in this game, it is just very very noticeable due to the heavy reliance on each individual shot to make an impact, and when it doesn't, especially in consecutive shots, it has dire consequences |
