This will be a long read. An inspirational read for what DUST should be.
Note, I am a big fan of CCP. This post is not intended to denounce CCP in any way. Just a matter of fact and opinion.
Also note, this topic will feature quite a few links. Most of these links will lead you to references within the story to current DUST mechanics/features and to other threads, referring the implementation of their ideas, request, and suggestions. Some other links will lead you to pictures. Some of the links here will lead to ideas I have made myself.
Credit goes to these innovative people who are loyal to the game as to share their input on how to make this game even better. I would also like to mention this.
And lastly, note that this thread is a vision of DUST, what it could have been.
I hope you enjoy.
Cue the music.
"DUST 514-« GÇô A MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER SHOOTER FREE TO PLAY ON PLAYSTATION3-«"
"What is DUST 514? DUST 514-« brings intense infantry combat, large-scale warfare, and deep character advancement to a free-to-play massively multiplayer shooter..."
"Wage war in the next generation of first-person shooters, where a single victory could prove the crushing blow to a galactic empire of thousands of online EVE Online-« gamers."
"...MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER SHOOTER...", "...brings intense infantry combat, large-scale warfare...", "...the next generation of first-person shooters..."
Where?
Where we find ourselves today, is where we were not led to. DUST 514, a sci-fi lobby FPS.
Let's start where we stand right now. Find match, fight, restock. Find match, fight, restock. Find match, fight, restock. An extreme grind. There is very little amount of depth in DUST currently. To me, it seems like it could just be a game you find at an arcade, or a minigame. As it stands now, does not fulfill The Mercenary's Dream.
Imagine a world, that is truly an MMORPGFPS. An open world MMORPGFPS, with large-scale warfare. A truly new generation of games, with DUST setting the new standard. A game that will blow all other FPS's, MMO's, sci-fi, and RPG games out of the water. Open world, just like EVE. It could just be an instanced open world. Our solar systems are planets, our stations cities, our ships us. Let's imagine this world through the life of a new mercenary, who is living the Mercenary Dream.
I found myself in the imperial city Dam-Torsad, Amarr Prime. I attended the Dam-Torsad Imperial Academy, where I was taught the basics of becoming a mercenary. I went up against many people there, all suitable of becoming mercs as well. I was placed into warfare simulations with my peers, instantly going into many different battle types. They gave me a starter fit based on the role i liked to be and that I thought was best for me. They gave me a few assets including skillbooks, that would definitely help me in the road ahead. I've acquired skill points while going through the academy, and when I graduated, they gave me some ISK that would help me create a new life in this world.
I was sent to a world of possibilities. Not just one world, but many. Thousands, thousands I can claim as mine one day. Where I can build an empire. Thousands of worlds I can roam freely. What I can do here, can affect everyone. Not only everyone in this game, but in EVE as well.
I geared up, grabbed my urban camo GEK-38, made sure my active scanner attachment that I salvaged was working functionally, and grabbed a couple of clips loaded with antimatter charges. I walked out, ready to explore such a vast realm filled with diverse planets filled with people, bots, and aliens.
Months went by and I found a niche, a reason. I found my DUST. I joined an empire spanning many planets and solar systems. They had a vast civilization, built their the cities ground up from the resources they worked for.
I was notified that our capital city would be under attack by a much larger force, it was something our satellites picked up. We sent a fleet of dropships, there was atleast 10. We were escorted by jets. We finally made it to the capital city, it was about 200 of us there already. And then, the moment I stepped on the pavement of our beloved city, a huge explosion goes off. A giant fleet of multiple aircraft rained bombs on us, dropships landing, infantry firing. Atleast a man dead every second, it was hundreds of us fighting in the city, a warzone stretched over kilometers across. Our leader deployed our mech division. We were constantly bombarded by Orbital strikes and mortars. Our beautiful capital on fire. Then without notice tanks came into view, so many infantry soon entered the battle, it was our allies. At least a 1000 at the battle there already, but we prevailed.
