IDK, though I will admit that I did feel this way about MAG for a long while.
Then I met RDR.
TBH, I don't really feel that way about Dust though, I might've started to if it was more than just a Lobby Shooter, but w/e.
I've been busy getting a PvE fix by playing splitscreen Guerilla Mode on TC Ghost Recon FS with my dad and brother in law.
I really like the cloaking there too, I hope it works basically the same here when we get it (though as a piece of equipment rather than just crouch and disappear). |

I play other games, and I like other games, and I'm even looking forward to other games that are coming soon.
My beef with War Thunder is that it seems like no one ever makes games for modern aircraft besides Project Aces, and I still keep meeting people who've never even heard of Ace Combat.
I just don't get this obsession with World War II, and why other games seem to get swept under the rug in favor of WWII games. |

I think this mainly applies to MMORPGs, because they take so much of your time and force you to play as much as possible (typically through mechanics which force players to grind all day). If you play more than one at the same time it starts to get hectic how you'll subdivide your time between them.
Generally though, console games don't require that dedicated input of time to get maximum benefit out of it. There's no 'sense of progress' which scales off how many hours you've put into the game.
So game monogamy on MMORPGs, I can understand. Everything else doesn't really matter.

My RL buddy only plays CoD. And is pretty much basing his next gen console purchase on CoD.
He did go on a try every FPS binge and he did play WoW for a year or two.
It seems weird to me but whatever. I have been contemplating building my own PC simply cuz i want to try Cube World so i have no moral high ground.
...
One thing that is true is that there are only so many days in the week and only so many hours in a day. These MMOs are getting kind of time consuming and one does not have to think that hard to see how Dust is designed to require long hours to even get up in skill points...very discouraging to causal players. EvE is the same way. One might expect strict game monogamists to be common among EvE and Dust players.
Luckily Elite and Star Citizen have no XP system....so i will feel just fine trying them both out. And it will be a breath of fresh air to have a community around those games who have not had game monogamy beat into them by the very design of the game....I really hope EvE-VR does not have an XP system so i can try it and put it into the list of games i can play without feeling obligated. |

Well, for an example, I've always played EVE alongside my other games, and it never consumes as much of my time as other people seem to complain of.
I mean, given the character progression is entirely passive and time-based, you can just set your skills and do other games to "take a break" or whatever.
I guess a lot of people feel like they HAVE to play Dust as much as they do to hit that weekly cap, but I don't think I've capped ONCE since launch, and it hasn't really bothered me that much.
I may not be at 22 million skillpoints by now, but I got into EVE 5 years "late" and I seem to have no trouble killing people.
Some may argue, but the concept is the same. You can have the best gear in the game and still be a bad player.
I mean, say they put in gear-based matchmaking? Do you think people like Regnum Dei would be handicapped if they only went into a match with Militia fits?

Well, like I said, that's a major factor in why I like EVE. You can barely play it at all, and still advance your character.
It fits well with my college courses, because I can just set longer skills and focus on my work. |

Have you made posts like that? Really? Because I'm fairly certain I could simply say "I like SWTOR/Skyrim/Mario etc." And you'd jump on my case about how they're NOT Dust so they don't have...Whatever it is DUST has that other shooters don't (What is that by the way?) |

Okay, I know for a FACT I've never said anything against Skyrim, and I don't think I've seen anyone say anything about Mario here.
Again, what I've been posting against is the threads saying "this game killed Dust and all of you still playing it are dumb". Those posts are needlessly negative and don't do anything but showcase how ignorant the posters are.
The thing that Dust has that other shooters don't is being part of the already massive EVE universe.
Except that the ONLY way that's the case is through Orbital Strikes, which are implemented like killstreaks in CoD.
If you look, you'll notice I've also made quite a few posts about the sorry state of EVE integration in this game.
At this point, that little EVE icon on top of the game logo might as well not even be there. |

On topic, I don't understand it either. I can kinda see where they are coming from though, because the more people that play the game, the more validated you feel for playing it and spending on it. Especially with multiplayer games where the experience tends to be tied to the number of players.
Personally, I'm playing Dragon's Crown, Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, Mass Effect 3. DUST514, Hyperdimension Neptunia, and Ar Tonelico 3, and I can understand a different kind of 'monogomy.' By the time I get back around to one game that I neglected from the play cycle, I've forgotten parts of the controls, or the character relationships in the RPGs, or that Volus can't hide. You need to have but so much time into each game, and depending on the person can only play so many at a time before each experience is watered down by the others. |

Just saying: I used to, because I was fairly invested in this game.
I may come back from time to time in the future to check out the new updates, but if I played as casually as you say you do, I would never... ever pay real money for anything in this game.
So the people who say they are leaving, are essentially saying they are no longer financially supporting this game.

Tell that to the Devs who got laid off in the 2011 restructuring.
Quote: In late 2011 CCP released an announcement to its community that they had made a mistake in development of the Incarna update and direction that EVE was heading, following this CCP announced that it had decided to re-prioritize and shift their focus from their World of Darkness MMO back to EVE Online and Dust 514.[9] The result ended up with approximately 20% of CCP staff being let go worldwide.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CCP_Games#2011_Restructuring
Note: I am not saying EvE-VR is a waste of money that CCP can't afford. Hell i think EvE-VR is a child born from a passion of a few Devs who knew what they wanted.....rather then a pile of community/committee driven crap Dust is. And as such actually has a chance at being a good game. Just pointing out that CCP is not made of money and the Devs are probably very aware CCP is not made of money. The Dust devs arrogance i think comes from their complete lack of talent and because of that lack of talent are unable to properly judge how talentless they are. |
