I am considering getting the Elite Merc pack, mainly for the Aur + boosters, but I am wondering about the Dren suits/gear. I noticed (from another post) that the suits/weapons are all standard grade, but I'm wondering if there's a way to use them to create a totally free suit (without buying milita BPOs). I know I can edit the starter builds for weapons, but can I swap out the suit as well?
If not, is it possible to create a new Dren suit build but use the militia gear (shield regs, damage mods, etc.) from the starter kits? Thanks! |

No, you can't take items that are attached to the starter suits. The Dren are nice since though since they are standard grade and if you keep the items cheap you can easily make money in instant battles. |

No, the only real nice thing about the Dren suits and weaponry is that they are standard suits that you can use without the prerequisite skills so you get access to Caldari standard assault, Minmitar standard logi, Galente standard scout, and Amarr standard sentinel suits without needing skills in that frame or suit.
Same thing with the weapons you have BPO shotgun, scrambler pistol, AR and swarm launcher without spending a single skill points. The Saga LAV is really nice to have too
If you think you are going to put over $100 worth of aurum into the game I highly recommend the Elite pack as it gives you the chance to play around with some things real cheaply ISK and SP wise |

You can create a free suit with the dren items, but you wouldn't have any modules...just weapons.
I still use my dren heavy, but advanced dropsuits are so much better...
Probably the best thing from that pack is the aurum and boosters, the bpo lav (having the ability to call in as many of these as you want to get you around the map is so helpful), and the standard BPO weapons. The suits are nice too as they are BPOs of the 4 main roles (sentinel, assault, scout, logistics), which means you save 1.2 million sp to try out these suits.
edit: with all of that aurum, you can buy some bpo militia items, but only buy ones that are actually useful way later down the road.
for instance, I still use my bpo armor repair, shield regulator, profile dampener, and nanite injector.
Just stay away from the bpo nanohive, damage mods, and shield extenders, as you will never use these modules once you get better skills. |

The AUR spent on Militia BPO's is worth it (to me at least) |

Thanks for the replies! Now, do you know if the 'Covenant' gear that comes with the Veteran pack is the same standard grade stuff? Is the only meaningful difference between the two the 'Covenant' Sniper rifle? |

Is the only meaningful difference between the two the 'Covenant' Sniper rifle? Don't think the Covenant pack comes with the standard Swarms - which are very nice early on - and I know it does not include the Dren Heavy - which is frickin' awesome (assault Forge gun or advanced HMG, 2x basic armor reps, toxin SMG, enhanced shield energizer) |

So essentially it's a Sniper BPO that's the main difference of BPOs (Elite pack doesn't get one, but gets WAY more BPOs lol).

You can't use the starter fit blueprints on a custom fit, and you can't put a different suit on the starter fit, but I would say the Elite pack is well worth your money. I got it, and my only complaint is that the suits/weapons are not covered in gold ;p |

I'll sell you a code for one. Way less than the $100 PSN is asking for. |
