Brink? You mean that 50 dollar POS that was abandoned by Beth after 3 months because the idea was unoriginal and dull? Yea.... sure... |

Brink wasn't a polished game by any means, it had things tweaked and adjusted. Main issue was that Beth ditched, not enough money was given to the "reviewers", I ignore reviews, pure corrupt and bias bollocks tbo. But a lot of people love and live by em. I still jump on brink once in a while, A lot of people on ps3 didn't really like it because I face naded them one too many times. Reality is, they released pre release footage which had sharper graphics than the end product, campagin and multiplayer was the same thing, though it claimed to have a storyline, lack of players lead to being team with and against dumb dumb bots. The game was released just as PSN went down, when it came back up it had server instability. Nearly al games have server issues to begin with, but the added downtime from the psn deal really hurt the game. The people who did play the game finally jumped ship when SD failed several release dates on their DLC, meaning they had to give it away for free. Which hurt them.
I don't think it was beter than Dust514, but it can be closely compared by the fact its a game with huge potential, that no-one will ever see. Brink to me will always be a "cult classic", it will also always be known as a flop. |

Did the beta for that game. was ridiculous. there were some really great videos of how it was supposed to be. was not like that at all. There are a lot of problems in DUST, but there is also a lot more content. I had a lot of negativity focused on DUST, but being reminded of that game just rekindled my love for this game |

The fact that i can make this statement and not enough people can yell at me to create a better distinction between Brink and Dust is a sad and pathetic example of truly how bad this game is. It really doesnt even matter if Brink is or isnt better then Dust (it is) the fact that the comparison can be made without complete and immediate dismissal shows you how bad this game really is, if people cant look at the 2 games and not be able to say no this isnt remotely as big a debacle as Brink was. |

That just shows Beth had better business acumen then CCP, Brink is still a better game then Dust, don't hate on Beth for being smarter then CCP and realizing they built a turd, but turd vs turd, Brink still comes up rosy. |

Wow this is an old post coming back up
and i just happen to be watching Usual Suspects as i type
anyway.....
i loved Brink but it had serious issues at the start, also the bad reviews and it not being called COD/BF did make it hard to get people to play it
the lack of realism is why i could not get many people to try it out, those who did quit day one due to massive lag
Dust has way more potential depth and for that reason i prefer Dust, however Brink did get the gunplay right it worked really well great fun and movement was very good
But it was never going to last, small thinking in that game paper thin story, bad timing etc
Dust has alittle of the same and if they need to fix Lag its the numberone killer of an FPS, if you cant shoot and hit your target whats the point
but in a couple years Dust will be good and you will be glad you were here at the start, Brink was 1 year tops and Dust will outlive COD and BF, Brinks movement will come into those games and Dust, i expect we will end up with destructible environments too as much as i dislike them |

I'm sure Brink has some loyal fans, but that game was really disappointing to me. The movement system was great, but the TTK was way too long for my liking, often taking a half a SMG magazine to kill someone. I don't have a problem with long TTKs, I usually find them to be funner than twitch shooters like CoD and BF, but it makes sense on CoD and BF for the people to die with just a couple of rounds. In Dust they can at least explain away the long TTK with shield and armor, but the people in Brink wore tank tops half the time, so it was really immersion breaking for me to unload 15 rounds into someone's chest without them dying.

The difference between Brink and Dust that will ensure Dust survives - CCP supports their games. CCP will keep working on and developing this game until and beyond the vision that has been created for it, which is the main thing that draws people to the game and keeps those that stay still playing. There was no vision to Brink, despite some cool mechanics and the origin of 'mingle-player'; it all just felt pointless, just like playing COD/BF. There may not be much to work towards in Dust at the moment apart from building your SP and soon building faction standings but we can all see an eventual gameplan that it will become - that's what makes this game better than everything else that's been mentioned in this thread.

I think you'll find there was a huge following for Brink, Bethesda let everyone down promising a really important update that would address some glaring balance issues in the SMGs and adding actual lobby support.
In the end they released a website where you could track battles and then dropped support for the game completely.

BRINK and DUST are two entirely different kettle of fish. You can't compare them directly!
That said DUST could learn a few tricks from BRINK, mainly weapon customization and locomotive abilities. But you can't compare them!

The gun is mightier than both
