Does leaving a match typically count as a loss (I honestly don't know)? If not, this could get pretty messy...
1. Match starts 2. Match is one-sided 3. Players on losing side leave the battle en masse due to not wanting a loss for the event 4. Matchmaking inserts a bunch of new players onto the losing side 5. The smart players immediately leave, the less smart players player a little, meet the 100 WP criteria and get stuck with the loss, lowering their chances of completing the event objectives.
Either that, or at the first hint of a match looking like a loss for one team, the players on that team leave en masse, followed by new players joining and immediately leaving en masse. Rinse, repeat. Could make for some pretty boring games for those on the winning side. |

I realized the FAQ for the event noted that leaving a match will still result in a loss (or a win for that matter), depending on the final outcome. It seems they implemented a 100 WP minimum for the match to count for the event, so that AFKing wouldn't be a viable option, but this also protects players that were put into a game on a losing team with the match about to end. As long as you don't charge in and kill a couple of people in the short, losing effort, it should not count against your record. |

I think I need to echo the sentiment of others in this thread, in saying that the event rewards are underwhelming
What is wrong with giving rare/unique/useful rewards for participating in and completing the objectives of an event? By this, I mean things like:
- Officer Dropsuit BPCs
- Officer Weapon BPCs
- The Pink Quafe Dropsuit or other aesthetically unique dropsuits/weapons/vehicles (Pink Dropship anyone?)
- Boosters (preferably Omega )
- Unique Forum Avatars
- Aurum (with which the player can purchase things they would actually use)
You catch my drift....
These events should be good for the community and break up the monotony of the daily SP grind. Unfortunately, they fall flat because nobody cares about the prizes. I like the idea of BPCs that can be used without any skill requirements, it gives those newer players a rare glimpse into the potential power they will one day be able to wield on a regular basis, a carrot to chase. While that is a good thing, you still have to do something to keep the veteran players interested as well, which means upping the meta level on prizes and offering truly unique items. |

CCP Cmdr Wang wrote:Okay, so you guys want better rewards for doing events, we get it. We want to make sure the events themselves are working in the right direction before we start throwing out the goodies, and believe me, there are some sweet things coming (for events at least ). We are working on a holiday themed event for later this year, and we'll make sure you guy get lot's of cool stuff, but to do that, we have to make sure the event goals are solid first. So, thanks for all the comments, yes, even from you trolls because even your rants provide useful information and I'll be seeing you on the battlefields of New Eden soon.
Honestly, this seems like a poor excuse for offering rewards that are mediocre at best and would never be used by most of the people receiving those rewards. Testing an event with decent rewards at stake will reveal far more valuable information than testing an event that has lost the interest of the player base before it has even started.
I really don't see what the big deal is, and I'm not trying to troll. If you are worried about making sure the mechanics of the events are sound before "throwing out the goodies", then stick with the BPC rewards and avoid handing out BPOs. The BPCs are consumable, so any damage that may occur as a result of flawed event mechanics and/or people gaming the system would be limited due to the finite supply of rewards given out.
I don't think I would be alone in saying this event would be much more exciting / worth participating in if the reward schedule were something like this:
- Tier I - Cala's MK-33 Submachine Gun BPC x 10
- Tier II - Balac's GAR-21 Assault Rifle BPC x 10
- Tier III - Thale's TAR-07 Sniper Rifle BPC x 10
That's only 30 total consumable BPCs maximum, but even at such low quantities, that schedule of rewards is orders of magnitude more appealing than what we have now.
You are at the dance and you really want to kiss the girl you came with. Good news, she really wants you to kiss her too, so stop worrying about whether the moment is perfect and get on with it. As long as you don't puke on her, it will be a win-win. Stop being such a prude, or before you know it, the dance will be over and nobody will go home happy. |

Sounds like trying to get to 3rd base on a first date to me.
Haha
If a kiss is 3rd base, what is 1st base? A flirty glance? In that case, you guys are giving us a lot of flirty glances, but now we just think you're creepy because that's all you do |

Baal Roo wrote:That's like a minimum of 10+ hours of playing Dust 514 over the course of the week just to get some items most people probably can't even use.
Actually, that's the beauty of Blue Prints. Even a player straight out of the academy can use them without having to meet a skill requirement (as long as they can fit them). Most of the rewards for this event are Blue Print Copies (BPCs) which, while not having the benefit of providing unlimited use that comes with Blue Print Originals (BPOs), still allow anyone to use them even if they have a high meta level.
I think rewarding players with BPCs is a great way of giving newer players the ability to "test out" the higher level weapons, on a limited basis, while still making decisions about what they would like to skill into. I just think the BPC rewards need to be valuable / unique enough to incentivize veterans as well, and the rewards for this event fail to do that.
Some feedback for CCP:
As someone who is not very familiar with the EVE universe and terminology, it was not immediately clear to me what the difference was between BPOs and BPCs, so I had to educate myself. It is probably best to assume many of the players reading Dust 514 Dev Blogs may not be familiar with terminology that is ubiquitous on the EVE side, so you may want to explain things like this in more detail. |
