Meh. I don't care. I still like this game.
It's gonna get better over time. Slowly, but surely.
Besides I knew they weren't going to hold fast to all the promises they made. Nobody ever does. Believing they would was your first mistake and that is why you feel the way you do. Now I know you're gonna be lke "so now I just have to expect things to be less than they are?" but yeah It's just the unfortunate reality of the world.
Have fun. |

It's nice that you "like" the game though. The point in my response is that I don't know what you expected.
I do "like" the game. Quote end quote

So far your drive by comment that doesn't respond to the OP isn't worth much. I read the entire OP. Sorry that I didn't fervently coddle him and praise his unique and original point.
I also apologize for not making my '2 cents' input a long-winded, carefully crafted rebuttal.
Here's another bump, OP. For the record I agree with you, but love of the Eve universe keeps me interested regardless. I don't particularly care where CCP decides to take this game in the future. I just hope I'm not the only one still playing. |

Noc Tempre wrote:Actually it was an open ended question. I'm far more interested in what you think DUST is supposed to be than anyone's analysis of what it is today, because that is a beaten to death topic. Is a game with guns that says CCP somewhere in the credits the sum total of what it means to be DUST 514 to you? Or is there more to it than that, even if the original promises are gone? I don't want a "unique first-person shooter experience", mostly because in 2013 there's no such thing. Dust is at best a 7/10 shooter, and at worst a buggy piece of free-to-play shovelware. It's gonna be like this 2, 5, 10 years from now.
CCP should refocus from this "unique FPS game" concept and focus on what the real purpose of this game is, which is to be a fully integrated part of EVE ONLINE. I want more and more and more Eve-to-Dust interactivity and functionality. The idea was supposed to be to make Dust and Eve 100% synonymous, and that is what I want the short/mid to long term goal to be.
I don't care what they decide to do with the overall meta of Dust 514, and putting in all this gimmicky crap you listed like infinite maps and ewar/capacitor mechanics would be nice and pretty and marketable but should really be on the backburner. All of that should be written down somewhere and put in a folder called "possible expansions in 5 years".
Their short term goal should be to completely fill the game with content within everyone's attention spans so that everyone can be at least mildly entertained, obviously making sure it all works in the process. All racial varieties of all weapons/vehicles/dropsuits of all variations etc. so they can at least keep the Eve-like customization gimmick that they can't really market because everyone is expecting/accustomed to customization systems like the one in COD:BO2. That way it can at the very least be a challenging play-for-fun-with-internet-friends shooter until they put in the whole "you're a merc fighting alongside capsuleers" concept me and other Eve players are waiting for.
In the meantime you and I should kick back and enjoy this relatively shallow shooter by meeting corps and creating alliances and ignoring everyone who thinks that CCPs prorities should revolve around changing DPS and HP statistics. If it's really bothering you (not directly you, OP, mostly all of the gripers) that this game is paper-thin, then COD:BO2 just released a new map pack my little brother tells me is pretty good. Also Planetside 2 (another paper-thin game) is going to be free-to-play on PS4, and that's right around the corner. That should entertain you long enough for this game to be seriously significant.
There is my 2 cents. I hope that is a worthy answer to your question. |

Noc Tempre wrote:Um, where to begin. This is an honestly frightening answer. You leave me flabbergasted with tons of questions.
If you want EVE and DUST to be synonomous, and the gunplay means absolutely nothing to you, why should DUST exist at all? All the territory conquest could be done with new spaceships and EVE mechanics. Please tell me if I'm wrong, but you seem to be saying you want integration for integration's sake, without any definition of what gameplay that actually produces. I would take an RTS. Hell, I would take a shtty RPG. They've decided to make an FPS as an extension to the 'real game', and that's fine. It makes it epic and fast-paced and ties well with the violent nature of Eve. Should it have good mechanics and stuff? Sure, like I stated, the game has to be enthralling somehow.
Nobody should be playing this game for skilled shooting. That simply is not the point of Dust 514. If they're playing this game expecting it to be Counter-Strike meets Tribes, that explains why everyone is griping all the time.
Coming from Eve, I really want to make Dust my main game in the Eve universe. I like to bounce between the two. I don't want "integration for integration's sake", whatever that implies...I want true meaningful Eve-to-Dust synonymy. Your corp in Eve wants to start some PI? Better hire some Dust mercs. Your corp in Eve wants to buy 1000 dropships for that PI contract? Better hire an Eve player to go mine and manufacture them. Don't like to FPS? Sit in Jita er...your merc quarters and trade on the market all day to get rich.
Edit: Then when your rich overinflate the market with Mass Drivers and Flaylocks and make them cheap to screw over the Gallente FWers |
