In EVE, you start off with some skills at using your race's ships.
Therefore, starting off with a level in your races dropsuits would make sense (and help out the newberry's a little). However, I think that is as far as your racial decision should go.
Every player should be able to do anything, and be viable at any role, regardless of the race they choose. If I am Caldari, I should be able to use a Gallente assault just as effectively as a Gallente mercenary, as long as I have the skills.
Races still matter though, but it is from a lore standpoint, not a gameplay standpoint. Each of the races has a very deep and unique backstory, and that is what determines many players decisions when it comes to racial choice.
You can be a complete and utter waste of a human being, and choose Amarr, for example. Or, you can make the right choice. That is how all of the races already matter. No matter your choice though, you will still be able to use the superior Caldari technology in all of its glory. That freedom should not be limited. |

But you should be able to choose what branch (light, medium, heavy) that you start out at lv1.
But yeah, I chose Amarr because they look all regal, and even if they had all the other variants, I'd probably stay Amarr Heavy only to slightly spec into the other heavy variants. NOOOOOO Amarr aren't shield tankers at all. ONLY ARMOUR BONUS! I thought we were hybrid tankers? that's why the heavy has the same HP in armor and shields. You are correct in saying that in Dust, Amarr are hybrid tankers. From a lore perspective though, this makes no sense, and I have no idea why CCP decided to go that route in Dust.
In EVE, the Amarr have the strongest armor out of any race. They are slow, lumbering, extremely durable hulks of machines, and their golden armor plating strikes fear into the heart of many.
Honestly, lore wise the Minmatar should be the hybrid tankers, since they utilize both shields and armor on their ships in EVE. |
