I believe that CCP will reconsider changing their mind set, once they realize that setting-up players indefinitely in their roles, is not a great Idea.
Someone once said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results". (or something like that!)
In my role right now it is exactly what is happening, I'm playing games over and over in the same load-out expecting different results.
I admit I made a mistake, but now I can only follow instead or lead.
Yes I have other options, but I do not want to put aside 12mil SPs and even More ISKs and start all over again.

I hate this saying with a fiery passion  . Here's someone explaining why, more clearly than I could...I feel compelled to pull a quote from it here, though - it describes the verbal atrocity in question as "the dumbest thing a smart person ever said."
EDIT: Now that I'm off my soapbox, I agree with your fundamental point...too much emphasis on specialization makes the game less fun. The current system allows you to spread out, though...just go for level skill 3 in a bunch of things, and skip absurdly overpriced skills like the individual weapon fitting optimizations. I think the problem is rooted more in the hardcore segment of the community promoting a hardcore skilling philosophy very loudly (which is appropriate for those who want to be the most competitive), while the more casual players who have figured out how to have fun with the skill tree in their own way, by virtue of being casual, don't make much noise about it. |
