Sorry, but I don't really enjoy having to play this game -more- just to get SP I'll never have another opportunity to get.
Without the SP Rollover system or an SP Pool all this 'event' amounted to was just playing the game twice as much throughout the week to get more SP, otherwise miss out on the opportunity to obtain it forever. It's a do or don't thing, you either play the game and hit your cap or you don't.
I don't like having to play a game like it's a job and considering that the matchmaker is literally the only way to get that SP I'm outright burnt out and not sure I can even muster up the willpower to get the last 150,000 SP remaining (because, yanno, that's what the normal cap is).
Sure, having the flu might have something to do with it but making it so that doubled passive SP from battle isn't an option (to discourage AFK camping no less, lmfao) it's practically forcing the players to play the game more to keep a competitive edge.
Let's face the facts... When I, a person who specialized in Assault, started running Logistics just to get more WP to hit this cap - we've got issues. The only thing this event has caused me to do is absolutely loathe the game and hate playing it.
Of course I could always give up and -not- hit the active cap, as some of you will inevitably say, but considering that the game has no legitimate features besides the skill/fitting system what else is there to do besides rack up on SP?
So, yeah. That's my gripe. Like I said, maybe it's because I'm sick, but I absolutely hate this event and everything it stands for. I don't like playing Dust that much in it's current iteration but it's the patience of waiting for new content that keeps me going - something CCP seems quite contrary to at the moment...
How's about next time we do 2x SP Cap with 4x SP Accrual, eh? |

Nah, I'm willing to be reasonable but christ this whole 6,000 - 10,000 SP a match thing is silly... It's like having to play anywhere from 30-60 matches throughout the week just to hit the cap as opposed to 20-30... Double SP from WP doesn't mean that much unless you're a hardcore Logi player or you're running with a defense marker on your face 90% of the game... |

Me and a corp mate moved almost exclusively to all bpo suits today. Minus an exception or two... And I have to say it was the most fun I've had with this game in a while. Got less kills, died about the same as always, made more isk. Only played 4-5 matches all morning.
But honestly I'm done capping sp. I just don't care anymore. I really like this game buuuut yeah. Hope you feel better soon Aeon. |

AFK farming doesn't benefit from double SP accrual and it's going to get fixed sooner or later. Once that option is off the table the game is going to revolve around the glorified match maker unless they introduce something new and refreshing at the same time.
I'm just burn the **** out on playing the match maker over and over and over again trying to hit a silly SP cap before Wednesday or potentially lose that SP forever. Really shoddy system, imo. Would prefer 100% passive SP or SOMETHING to keep from playing this game like it's a damn job in order to keep my edge.
And don't even get me started on the "THIS WEEK ONLY!" Passive Omega-Boosters, apparently a corp-mate of mine actually passed everyone up in terms of SP because he conveniently had a load of money to drop for that one-week availability. |

I have a MD and I can't even be arsed to cap out on normal weeks. The game just isn't that compelling, and I'm content to earn straight passive (boosted, cus yeah, I gave CCP money )for the most part.
I did my first AFKing this weekend. Sort of. Turned out a few of us just ran around the MCC shooting and meleeing each other. Eventually I dropped out and hid in the rocks in the redline for a few games. Even AFKing, doing other stuff, I only lasted 10 games before I couldn't be bothered to even start an AFK match. |

... le sigh, feeling OP.
The mechanics of this double SP event have been found sorely lacking. Previous events rewarded those who played with no additional work required. It was a cool way to get into better gear faster. This one requires 2x the work for 2x SP for average joe assault guy. Hardcores will grind it out, casuals will be left a little bit further behind the curve.
Targeting AFKers this way is just not working. Ironically, AFKers are so apathetic they don't even notice they're AFKing more. |

Lmfao - have you read any of my previous posts? I didn't get 2,500 likes for nothing dude.
I have almost every skill even remotely related to my specialization at level 5, I've actually started to bridge into other specializations because I have no reason to invest further SP into anything else or I simply can't. I'm sorry, but some skills just aren't worth the SP.
Put it to you this way... I have to drop 1,500,000 SP into Assault Rifle Fitting Optimization 5 to get a whole 3 extra PG from a prototype rifle. You know what sucks about that the most? The fact that level 2 and 4 give absolutely no benefit due to the rounding system. The only levels in that skill that are worth a damn are 1, 3 and 5.
Level 1: 9.22 Level 2: 8.77
Both round off to 9, so you will see no benefit from level 2 at all.
So, having to spend twice the effort to grind up an extra 190,000 (285,000 with booster) SP for absolutely no benefit from the skill as I will be leveling it up to Lvl 4, is insane.
There's a significant difference between grinding SP for some cool new stuff and being toward the "end game" in which you're throwing SP at skills that barely make a difference if any at all.
And this isn't even mentioning the fact that it's the same.... exact.... routine.... over... and over....
I'm physically ill and the sad part is I want to remain competitive because that's just how I am as a gamer. This is -my- game, this is my preferred game in which I want to be king (in my own world) and I've done a damn good job of keeping that edge. I am simply stating that it's bollocks having to do two-to-three times the work for twice the benefit all because Mary Poppins and the Kaleidoscope ******* decided to AFK through the entirety of the last event.
The entire premise of this event's mechanics was to discourage AFK camping and instead it just made **** THAT MUCH MORE DIFFICULT for the players who actually play. I mean, christ - you want to know the best solution? Remove the damn MCCs entirely. Done. Over with. |

Well, if you aren't having fun shooting people, then there really isn't any other point to play at this moment. Some meaningful, EVE-style incentive to go out and fight can't come soon enough. In the mean time, maybe it would be best for you to just take it easy. When playing a game starts feeling like going to work, it's time to take a break.
Actually, this happened to me with EVE, twice, in five years I'm playing it. I didn't lose interest in the sense that the game got boring or bad, or that I didn't have anything left to do, I just got saturated by it. But after I few weeks, I returned, and it was fun again. Maybe some people simply switch to something else, but EVE has pretty much ruined every other MMO for me.
I hope DUST some day gets to the point when it will ruin every other shooter to people. |

I agree very much, I have also stopped using proto equip and run only in milita, standard and bpo stuff now with most expensive suit at 6k isk. It is much more challenging and satisfying getting kills. To make it more challenging select a weapon you have only skilled 1-2 levels in I am running a scout with little ehp and a shotgun only skilled to level 1. So much more fun getting kills than with my proto AR and heavily shielded and armored logi.

A few points of PG/CPU make a world of difference. Why don't you start exploring other alternatives and specializations in order to achieve the same reward that you once felt when you began filling out your current concept? At least it might help alleviate the mental fatigue.
Edit: The game is meant to be challenging, i.e; the grind. The benefit is that you are one step closer to level 5. It's not pretty but players who are dedicated are 'rewarded' by maxing out their statistics while others who want quick hits of instant gratification are more spread out. It's give and take. |

One of the chars I capped out is saving all his SP for Amarrian vehicles. He has no SP in any skill whatsoever. God, was he a ***** to cap out with. On a side note, I learned the best place to be to ***** WP is the gunner's seat of a tank. Vehicle Kill Assist + Kill Assist = more WP than the sucker of a driver that scored the actual kill. |

Different types of games, man. I find Dust more rewarding in the sense that there is some metric I can apply to 'accomplishment'. WP, SP, ISK, etc. There's slightly more meaning. |

I've gotten kind of busy so Dust is going to be on the back-burner anyway for a while, but this event was certainly counter-productive for my motivation. |

Well, I agree Aeon. I capped my main and my alt this week. That is like a month's worth of playing in one week. I am ****** burnt out. The last thing we needed was an event that caused more of a grind. I liked the 3x SP week they did awhile back. They should have just ran that again. |

Idk I had a blast this double sp week. Got a 3 day active booster. Didnt really play the first day but enjoyed the last two. Learned a new playstyle. Leveled up some skills that weren't important but necessary in their regards (electronics, dampening, range etc). Its all in your head whether you want to have fun in this game or not. There are plenty of choices but you have to think of a plan. This is not a 15 second shooter like cod. SP earned this week makes you more of a contender next week. Its all about the future man!

This double SP week has been rough, took me until up to the last day to hit my cap. Still played a few rounds after the fact, though.
Surt gods end wrote:*wait.. so they put a cap, so noobs will have a chance to catch up. but.. they kept everyone that was in beta sp? * That's the part you laugh. laugh. It will be no different than everyone now keeping their SP once the next major expansion (past Uprising) releases. We can't go resetting the SP every time just to stay on a level playing field.
And on that note, I abandoned my beta character and made Aero after May 14th. I already feel well caught up, at least for instant battles and FW and why would I want to play PC anyways? Sounds like the lamest thing ever with everyone exploiting everything possible to hell and back.

Challenging =/= Grinding. Grinding is the compulsory action for scheduled rewards through operant conditioning. You play because you KNOW you will get rewards. This doesn't make a game fun, it's just like work. You go to work because you know you will get paid.

Get out of the mentality that you have to cap, player skill is also just as important, I have been winning against Protos with my advanced gear for a month or two now.
You're missing the point like a huge majority of the people responding in this thread.
It's not about playing the game - it's a heavy handed way to get players to play a game that is repetitive, redundant and un-entertaining after the first hundred thousand matches. It's the same routine over and over again for the same rewards. ISK and SP. There's no difference in it to jumble it up and make it interesting.
There's no way to keep the player engaged once they reach a satiation point in which they're stating to themselves: "Why the hell did I waste eighty hours of my life?" You hit the skill cap, you invest in skills that have absolutely no real meaning. The game hallmarks on you "being able to make the shot that changes history" but there's no history to be changed. Yanno, unless you look at Planetary Conquest in which you have to have the right kind of gear and the right kind of skill - so it's not for everyone, and even then you have to get past the power blocs to even get a foot in the door.
I don't think I have to remind you that this is why Eve Online is such a ***** for independent projects to get started up in Null-Sec. |

What do other FPS games offer, if not less or similar? The issue is not SP/ISK, it's the lack of maps, proper matchmaking and etc. A game is subjective, the enjoyment relative to the individual enjoyment. I like grinding for things, therefore this is fun. I enjoy 'unlocking attributes, weapons, etc. I enjoy designing dropsuits. I enjoy theorycrafting to create a good suit and plot out potential, future suits.

I won't touch that because no matter what game I bring up you're prepared to defeat it with some kind of argument in favor of grinding. Lack of maps and proper match making doesn't affect the aspect of that grinding, however. It doesn't matter what map your on if the rewards are always the same. It's conditioned. You play, you get something - it's like work. You go to your job and you get a paycheck at the end of it all.
Call of Duty, Battlefield and Halo are the biggest contenders for FPS games but you're forgetting one thing that all of those games have in common: Fluctuating and ever prevalent releases of more titles. They don't release new content (and if they do it's almost ALWAYS maps/weapons) so you're still playing for the same scheduled reward. You're pressing a button for a cookie but the main thing that you're not taking into account is the satiation point from having too much.
The inclusion of that RPG-esque system is just delaying you from realizing the core design of the game. You fight, you get paid. That simple. A lot of players don't realize this until they hit the end-game and that's what happened with me. I swore up and down to the veteran players that the game had content that we just had to be patient for.
Let me put it to you like this: When you hit 15,000,000 SP you're going to start to notice some things:
A.) There are less skills that you can put SP into that give you new things to work with. B.) Those skills are often extraordinarily high in their SP cost. C.) More times than not the tools gained from investing in those skills isn't something you're going to like.
Watch the video. Don't beat around the bush - just watch it.

I understand the limitations; it's an RPG/MMO/FPS. It has the same positive and negative attributes of all those things. It's why I don't continue playing WoW or other MMOs despite 'new content'.
CCP is attempting to do the same thing in regards to events; giving out more reward (not always SP) for completing objectives.
As an MMO, there is going to be emergent game play - this is important for CCP and what makes Eve successful to some degree. The players are given a sandbox, some tools and their own human nature with little in the way of moral reigns to mechanically limit them.
It's not that I disagree with you but playing Halo, CoD or BF it inevitably becomes the same thing, after a while. If you enjoy FPS and seeing new FPS content then certainly, those games are going to be more flavorful for you. Dust is not just an FPS and is an experiment in blending the genres. Clearly, it has it faults. A lot of them. However, you missed the point; you don't like it for the limitations you experience as not being rewarding or enjoyable. For me, I find those same things enjoyable. I enjoy looking forward to opening up multiple proto suits, experimenting with different setups, etc. Even if I end up playing casually, it's still rewarding for the time I invest into it and that is what is most important for every gamer.
Not everyone is going to agree on what makes a game fun for them.

CCP is attempting to introduce content, right now, via events; giving out more reward (not always SP) for completing objectives. Content, for CCP, seems to be in the realm of introducing new mechanics and lore, from what I've seen, but my experience with Eve is limited. Their expansions are different from how Blizzard does an expansion.
Every RPG/MMO is the same thing; grinding.
Every FPS is the same thing; fighting.
Content will take the form of events, new mechanics/large updates and player driven battles as PC expands.
As an MMO, there is going to be emergent game play - this is important for CCP and what makes Eve successful to some degree. The players are given a sandbox, some tools and their own human nature with little in the way of moral reigns to mechanically limit them.

But you're addressing the exact issue I'm getting at... Not all players enjoy the grind, and with 22 likes so far I'd say that not a lot of Dust players enjoy it either. Dust 514 claims to offer something more but in it's current iteration it does not. There are other games that are better for grinding with more plentiful, easier to obtain rewards than Dust.
Dust is a shooter that is supposed to have content and player driven stories, the "omg that's unbelievable" aspect of which we've had maybe one (Dust mercs collaborating with Faction Warfare guys in Eve Online to flip a very hard to conquer system).
"Dust is not just an FPS and is an experiment in blending the genres."
What genres does it blend besides a customization system (something I don't consider "RPG" by the way) and FPS mechanics? Nothing, really. |
