Now, Nova, I have much respect for you, Iron Wolf and Cazaderon (simply because you are the most active at least on the forums). But I'd like to point one thing out: that's right, ccp is lacking communication, but our cpm is lacking activity too. If it wasn't for some of you at the CPM, people wouldn't even know it actually exist. You all at the cpm started the right way: I remember when there was some poll on the forums and some surveys. But what now?
English is not my first language, so maybe i didn't convey my thought. I'll make an example:
2-3 months ago we had a survey promoted by cpm. And that was great. Now, there was many questions there, and I'm pretty sure it helped out you and ccp to better understand player base's feelings. But now, how could you or ccp know if a weapon, for example, is OP? Why isn't there any voting system anymore?
I do love what you actually do for the game, but I think it's just too late. Many beta testers left because of uprising, and they won't probably give dust another chance, because what they expected from a MMOFPS is not what they actually saw in Dust. So if they left and never return, feedbacks, polls, decisions could be "dirty". I mean, when the majority of the player base on an FPS is actually not an FPS player, and never played FPS, the FPS itself would take wrong turns with every decision. Look at mouse vs keyboard for example. No way a ps3 fps player would ever accept the idea to play with a DS3 against Kb/M. A PS3 player would never accept such a low DS3 sensitivity against mouse rotation speed/precision. Ok, they're working on it now, but, again, it's late, maybe too late. Dust foundation is competitivity, when there could not be competitivity, because of kb/m vs ds3, sp system, op drop suit/tank/whatever and there's nothing else to do, players will leave/afk/come back in an year or two. Meanwhile the game dies.
Sorry for the wall of text. Maybe I just wanted to vent over such a great opportunity (Dust514) wasted. |

To answer your question about balance : At every possible turn, we tell CCP to talk to the community, not just us. We have made it a point internally to not allow ourselves to be used as a balancing tool whenever possible, because there is a much more obvious merit in getting feedback from dozens of people who are usually more knowledgable than we about a given topic. Surveys are tricky to do, because it's really hard to gauge the feedback or provide adequate options in the first place, except for the most cut and dry of issues. We'd love to get a lot more "Public feedback Gathering" posts out there, but in all honesty, we need to get more stuff from CCP and permission to actually share that stuff in order to make that a reality with any real merit. Other than that, all we can really do is take someone else's thread and say "CCP. make sure you read this thread extra close, because it makes X point."
I see your point, that's why I am saying that the player base is too small in order to provide good feedbacks. Even if you could make "public feedback gathering", you will always see a partial truth (even more partial if we consider that a good 30% of dust players don't even check the forums). Have you guys ever talked with some devs about total reworking (like FFXIV A Realm Reborn)? Both on ps3 or ps4. |

Almost every competitive clan is already making plans for which games they will be playing next. Everyone is so burnt out by the state that this game has been in since release (3 months now) and the apparent apathy CCP has towards its player base that they really could care less anymore. If CCP had started this two months ago they might have saved a lot of their player base. Expect to see a massive drop right after the tournament ends. Many of us had great hope for this game and were willing to give CCP months and months to come around but they have not. We got half-hearted promises of more communication and involvement but then just got the trolling 'community team' and lip service. I know many people who have posted some very great ideas of how to make this game more entertaining and add depth within the limitations that we currently had but the posts void of any type of involvement from CCP.
I would like to say thank you to Fox and Wolf for being two of the more communicative devs out there and it is much appreciated. Unfortunately, any changes now will be too little and too late. CCP has already lost the faith and trust of a lot of its players.
Quoting this entirely. (and here's another free bump!) |

If all goes well 1.5 should be the first release largely presided over by CCP Flying Scotsman, I have faith in his ability to get things on track.
To any CCP reading this, I'd like to reiterate the CPM statement; we're here because we want the game to succeed. Let us help you figure some of this stuff out!
presided by flying scotsman? have you got a link or something for that? |
