I wouldn't want to be charged with writing the business case for this or present it to their investors.
Maybe they could roll out that contrived OB demo again? |

They've said specifically in many interviews that their current long-term plan involves Dust 514 "outliving the PS3". Not many other ways you can interpret that unless you're going to be one of those idiots that thinks that means they're making a PC client. |

They said that they would continue dust onto future generations of hardware, they've implied that the switch will happen at some point but they've given absolutely no indication of when it'll happen. |

They still have like unlimited time to announce that. It's not that they have to announce it before the PS4 is released. And at the moment I guess they have more important things to work on than a PS4-port. |

The whole stated intent of Dust was to bring in a "different group of gamers who would normally not be able to experience the EVE universe from their console".
Why would it make any sense to just dump that and switch to a PC game?
And don't use Planetside 2 as an example. Planetside 2 is going to have a completely separate set of servers for PS4 players because of the control differences.
What PC gamer that you can think of would tolerate an FPS that has rotation speed limitations? Their $120 gaming mouse would give them no competitive advantage.
So, to release it on PC, they'd have to remove the rotation caps, instantly placing at an extreme disadvantage anyone who uses the controller, which is the control method DESIGNED for the console, now meaning that anyone that wants to stay competetive has to buy a mouse just to not get creamed. Some people don't even like gaming with mice.
A PC client would alienate the entire console community and effectively sink this entire project just to gain an audience of PC gamers who would probably ignore it in favor of Planetside 2's constant parade of new MLG emblems and glowing vehicle trim. |

I stopped about here. I feel like I should say something about matchmaking and pubstomping here. Something about people getting creamed because of unfair advantages and comparing that to mice and such...I dunno though. |

If they didn't have native support, people would just use custom solutions or input emulators to use their mice anyway.
Keeping the game as it is, the advantage is manageable, so everyone can play fairly together once the improved aim-assist system comes in for the controllers.
This is, after all, a console game first and foremost. Using the control method designed for the platform should NOT be a disadvantage. |

how it seems to me, dust514 will continue on the ps3 till the ps3 is literally not viable in the least, then if it's an option they will port to the ps4.
here are the facts that really can't be denied.
eventually at some point in the future the PS3 just won't work, new users won't be buying PS3's, and their will be no market for new users. PS3 support from sony will dry up, and dust will essentially meet it's doom.
the only option for them at that point will be to port to a console, or port to PC.
honestly I don't know which they will choose, but I seriously hope they have a plan by now, at the latest that point will be in about 3 years. |

well I wouldn`t say it would be genius to delete it (btw I`m not mocking your comment or sarcastically jibing you) so here`s hoping CCP kept it just in case. Now THAT would seem perfectly within the realm of possibility. As well, given they've teased the idea of shared social spaces, I don't think a difference of engines would be an issue here. For one example, after the Trinity 2.0 upgrade, they kept the 1.0 client available for people to download who couldn't match the new specs, and both clients ran alongside each other for the next 2 years, both have all the same functionality with the only difference being what they rendered. Given that the tech demos for Unreal 3 around the time of Gears of War 2 showcased groups of hundreds of character assets all moving through a tightly packed environment without framerate drop, I think just rending simple characters walking around, even in fairly large numbers, wouldn't be too stressful. From what we've seen of the PS4, it could easily handle Trinity 2.0, which is the actual rendering engine of CARBON, which is their Core Technology Framework that encompasses that, their physics engine Destiny, and several other systems. The eventual idea they stated was to have one platform that EVE, Dust, and World of Darkness all operate on.

I was using an extreme example to make a point, obviously. |
