Really tough to squeeze anything else into the lows ... coming from a Cal Logi, Min Assault is a pain in the ass to fit properly lol. I should look at the ferroscale more closely. You say it has a built in repper? That could be more effective than the Armour repper, since it is really only there to rep you between fights anyway, at least when used on a shield tanked suit. I should have paid more attention when that was released.
Ferroscale Plates are roughly half the armour and no movement penalty compared to normal Plates. It's the Reactive Plates that have the built in repper. |

if you are going assault by the sounds of it:
get your shield extenders up to enhanced (i would go lvl 5) at least before doing shield upgrades - it gives you more HP for SP than the passive
dont focus on CPU/ PG core upgrades only add them as you need them
definitely get advanced suit - it makes fitting easier, and needs less SP in the above to fit a suit
get a basic armour plate - excellent HP for little to no PG / CPU (and about to get a buff)
if you dont stay alive long enough to need a nanohive use a level 1 (or miitia if can fit) injector - you get 60 WP for pro rezzing
if you want to max poss WP in a game - follow up the advanced, level 2, assault, with a lvl 3 minmitar logi - you will be able to carry level 1: nanos, injectors and or remotes/ links/ or repair tool - WP will abound
would look at biotic upgrades before going beyond level 3 for shield/ armour - but thats me. minmitar benefits greatly from speed
edit: use Hydraslavs planner in the sticky above to work out fits / where you need to put SP. Its an amazing tool/ resource |

The difficulty tends to go in waves, which might be why you feel like you've made headway sometimes and backslid others. Wednesday nights are especially bad because the SP cap has just been reset, so everyone goes back to their main toons with all of the good gear and maxed out skills.
Keep it up, you can learn a lot by getting proto stomped if you pay attention to the squad tactics being used by the stompers. Use you more expensive or experimental fits during times that are less difficult, like during the middle of the day if you can, or in the beginning of the week. |

Thanks guys. This thread has become (for me) a Dust 514: Assault Class for Dummies lol. I've been reading through it nearly every night, and with the info I've devised a pretty solid near future plan for my build, along with efficient paths for far future builds. I really appreciate the tips, help, and kind words. I came into the game leery of the community (as I do with every game) but have been pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness and general positive attitude. I would hope any rookies just coming in and experiencing how difficult it is get on the forums and at least read, if not post. It made a huge difference for me, in both the mental and gameplay sense.
Quick update on where i'm at, should have my ADV Minmatar suit by tonight, and i'm hoping for ADV shield extenders by the week end, not sure what AR i'm gonna throw on, gonna play it by ear and see what my CPU/PG is looking like, level some passives for that if need be. Been having some better matches, being extremely careful while still being quick and decisive.
Quick random thought. I'd like to see them throw some forum posts up directly in game. Maybe have a tab under, just for example, the Battle Finder and have maybe like 10-20 posts from the forum accessible right there. It could be read only just to keep it simple. Maybe have the most recent posts, or only CPM commented posts or what ever. I feel like if the forums required virtually no effort to access, more rookies would get into them, and maybe player retention would become less of a problem. Just a thought. |

The thing is, for you to get a kill, someone else has to be killed. This game has a real issue with zero sum play. Currently, you are in the being killed role. You can't really imagine getting out of perfectly (never dying) without someone else ending up where you were.
That said, do you mostly play skirmish? I used to and it can be very frustrating - I'd recommend alternating between ambush and skirmish. Ambush ensures you will engage with an enemy. Skirmish lets you potentially chill out, do some jogging and make some SP and ISK. Both can be too much (being overun in ambush, being pinned down and doing nothing in skirmish) but what one lacks the other gives. So alternating is a better option. |

Miles O'Rourke wrote:My advice to you Dunk would be to focus on the Core Upgrades, Engineering and Elecrtonics skills as well as the Armour Upgrade and Shield Upgrade skills before you do anything else; the former three will increase the PG and CPU of any Dropsuit you use, meaning you can fit more stuff to them, while the latter two will increase the Armour and Shields of the suits without even needing to fit any Armour Plates or Shield Extenders.
After that, I recommend Armour Repair Modules, so your Dropsuit armour can regenerate without you needing to change suits at a Supply Depot, as well as Handheld Weapon Upgrades so you can fits Damage Modifiers to the Dropsuit's High Slots.
For now, stick to a basic Assault Rifle or the Gek-38 at the highest and fit a Militia Light Damage Modifier if you have the PG and CPU for it. That 3% bonus will make a difference.
+1. Well said sir. Early in the game it is more about core skills and survivability than attack. Once you have your core skills and advanced suit fit out well, your k:d should improve.
Also, be sure you have no lag in your system.... TV on game mode, wired not wireless, and run your hdmi direct into your tv. It took me a while before I figured out it was my setup not my skills that were holding me back.
Hope this helps....Lead |
