It's ridiculous that in one game you have two different skill sytems. We have the system with MLT, STD, ADV and PRO for infantry gear and vehicle modules and we have the EVE system with Techs for vehicle chassis. Many of you may say bring ADV and PRO vehicles to the game because it's less work and easier but hell no, don't do that! You see what PRO gear does for infantry. Everyone is complaining about Proto stomping and they have only a few hundred HP more. You would see tanks with over 20k HP that run around with being scratched by anyone. If you would make them only a little bit better than STD tanks nobody would use them. If you'd remove ADV and PRO gear and make the system work like EVE with various different suits on Tech 1 and a few specialized suits on Tech 2 it would solve a lot of problems. So would Proto stomping just vanish in all its ways and people would use primarily the basic frames and thus you would have to be really bad to make loss.
To create a bit more of variety the different version should be really different (but equally strong) in slot and stat layout at first and later should get a different skin too. Each variant should get more bonuses so again more diversity is added. The Tech 2 colourings should be like in EVE dependend on the manufacturer. The price tag of Tech 2 gear should be quite a bit higher than for basic frames.
Most of the Tech 1 gear would be available already at level 1 or 2 so the skills could have a higher multiplier and higher bonuses.
For weapons and turrets there should be different ammo and subsystems instead of the variants. Maybe some variants could still be in the game as prebuild AUR items like the promoted dropsuits.
TL;DR Make the gear level system more like EVE. Remove ADV and PRO gear and add Tech 2 and 3 items instead.
All that might sound drastically but it has been working in EVE for over a decade now and the game is just awesome. These changes would make the game easier for beginners and more casual friendly but it would be harder to master.

I love your enthusiasm but I really don't think it would with the items currently in the game to reformat the suits to be more inline with the T1, T2, T3, and faction ships and in Eve. There simply isn't the variety of equipment needed to make such a structure viable. For example, in Eve you have ships devoted to e-war which doesn't exist in Dust, neither does industry (no mining yet), and there is no mechanic for exploration. Taking out these T1 types and you are left with the 4 current Dust Suit types (scouts, logis, heavies, assaults).
Now only having 4 suits per race (assuming all of them could be implemented right away) would be pretty limiting for the average FPS player. Where would the progression be after all? How would you feel like you were being rewarded for spending so much time in game. More importantly, how would you prove your vet status to others without your shiny black proto gear.
Additionally, since T2 (let alone faction) gear and the associated skills would take more time to implement into the game. Using your restructuring of the game you're looking at a long boring grind with even less variety than we have now.
I lke what you are trying to say but it just isn't practical at this point in time with the limited equipment and associated roles. |

Proto gear doesnt cause proto stomping, people good enough to use it correctly do, some people are just good and only die maybe 3 times per match, and that means they can effectivly use proto gear others die,6 times per match (me) if I tried using proto id dig a trench of dept I profit the most using full std because that's what I can effectively make use of and afford, keep adv and proto |

Sorry about that, it kinda started off as a rant and then steadily devolved into something inviting discussion. It did its job however, it got people thinking about the idea of tiercide in dust and the problems tiered gear is creating. Also to mobius, go look at cat Merc's thread, it's titled "cat Merc's invasion plan..... Guide to save dust" it gives a much better in detail example of how the new gear would work out. |

Gear restriction is not the solution. If DUST ever becomes a sandbox this would be against the sandbox principle.

I would only support this if its MLT and and STD that are removed, the fitting slots of ADV and PRO give the sort of freedom of customization that make Dust special. Just rename ADV and PRO to MLT and STD. AV gear should remain just the current MLT and STD though. |

Basicly the Tech 1 gear would not be the current STD gear but new gear with new slot layout and stats so they still have enough freedom to customize it. Since there are different variants of each racial suit there would be some suits with more slots and others with more ewar capabilities or HP. |

And that's what it should be like. The Tech system should be more or less the same as EVE has.
