This is for CCP's own benefit. EVE is nice, and it allowed the DUST 514 project to start up, but CCP is in over their head.
CCP can't keep up with today's demands and stay competitive with other titles. DUST is a cool game, but it will never be right, or in proper working order. By the time the mechanics of the game will be fixed, the content of the title will have been long since eclipsed.
CCP, you are burning the candle from both ends and there is no sign that you can ever catch up to the competition. Its not your fault, as your resources are limited and you are attempting to stretch them as far as you are capable, all the while still learning as you go.
I have no doubt that DUST has generated you revenue, maybe even profit has been seen, or will be seen in the near future. However, the way I see it, you are trying to shovel out a hole, but twice the dirt keeps falling back in with every shovel full.
I would love to see DUST 514 in working order and have the depth that has been promoted, but with new consoles on the way, newer and better engines being built, the CCP DUST 514 Project will never chase down the deficit there competition has started them in. The gaming market is very hard to compete into, and attempting to build a AAA Title from scratch may have not been a good idea.
So, I ask you to just scrap DUST 514. Your playerbase will move on, as most of them have been doing anyway, and will do so more when the next Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Destiny titles become available. This is not to say that you should never attempt this type of project ever again, but perhaps more emphasis on "learning the ropes" should be releasing content into a public audience. |

Lol where would we be without captain obvious, we all know the game isn't finished yet and it's crappy that it's still in development, still more fun than call of duty and the day that it gets stale I'll stop playing, then probably come back to it later or just play PVE because I'm guessing it will be out by then.
If ya don't like it don't play.
Nobody's attention span for one game will last 5-10 years. By then DUST will have been so far eclipsed by bigger developers it won't be worth playing. That's if the game makes to this time next year. |

CLONE117 wrote:dust 514 is still better overall gameplay over cod and al those other fps shooter out right now...
its most similar to star wars battle front though..
I can't say that it is. But comparing CoD to DUST is worse than comparing apple & oranges. You have to compare DUST to Planside or Blacklight Retribution for a fair comparison. And quite frankly, its not even close to those 2 games. DUST started out in last place and will be left in the dust by the time the next round of major shooters get released. |

I'm sure they have their own metric for determining success or failure which depends on data they won't be sharing with you. Their milestone for checking success might even be years in the future. Move along if you want but I'm going along for the ride. It's likely to be a bumpy and frustrating ride at times but it'll be interesting either way.
the ride ends when PS4 launches. Because the 4-5 launch titles that console will have justifies scrapping all the games you have now and the consoles you play them on. Grow up.
Right, because everyone still plays and buys things for the PS2 and PS1, right? lmao

People can wait around all they want. I'll still play the game until it gets added to the long list of dead titles.
I know it's not very nice to tell CCP "you can't do it", but this isn't a Rocky movie were CCP is the underdog and is going to rise above all odds and be a success story.
The largest Publishers can barely make a decent working game these days as it is, CCP can't keep parallel.
There are to many glitches, bugs, broken code, jumbled code, flawed logic codes, and to weak an engine to support what DUST's vision is. The time frame in which they can correct this exceeds what is needed to stay competitive.
And the content of the game itself is being ruined inside out by the managers of the game and playerbase itself. The player base of this game is 1/100 of Call of Duty and people still can't agree on what the scope of the game's vision needs to be.
If you can't see that DUST's shelf life is in it's closing stretch, try not be upset when you go to play one day and a prompt informs you that Server is unavailable and it stays that way indefinitely.
Building games costs enormous amounts of liabilities. More developers would have to get involved and that would only heighten the investment CCP is making against unreasonable odds. CCP isn't going to keep the circus train rolling longer than they have to. |

Demon Buddah wrote:Speak for yourself man. I like Dust and so do a lot of people. EVE was at the bottom in the beginning now it's one of the most successful MMO's ever. It just took time, Dust will get there eventually and when it does anyone who leaves will miss out when everything starts rolling in. And if they ever do come back they will be way behind. This game beats both COD (what game doesn't lol) and Battlefield. A lot of bugs and glitches at the moment but they will get there. EVE has be around for 10 years and it's still going strong. Dust will only grow and grow. It's only a matter of time.
Look at the differences in gaming, and the speed its evolving at, compared to 10 years ago. Now think where it will be 10 years from now. CCP is trying to merge DUST into very high speed traffic and they are using a outdated vehicle. It will end in a pile up.
CCP might as well cut the loss now and dive the resources back into EVE itself, or something less competitive. |

excillon wrote:1. PS4 will not kill Dust 514. Eventually, it will get a graphics/engine overhaul. EVE has survived for 10 years with updates to accommodate changing hardware. Why would Dust be any different?
2. I think you underestimate CCP's overall goal. While they certainly don't share a lot of data, I think they're goal is obvious. I think it's to make EVE and Dust simply different facets of the same game. With the confirmed and rumored upcoming stuff being implemented, it only makes sense. If both games get big enough, I could even see EVE becoming F2P and being modeled after Dust. They just have to make sure the systems are in place before opening the floodgates. And if that means getting protostomped and woncky mechanics, along with limited options for a while, so be it. As frustrated as I may get at times, I know it's better to make it right than rushed.
3. You can't even compare it to "other games" on the market. As a former part time Cod player, an avid KZ player, there's nothing in the market that offers the depth of an RPG with the action of a shooter. It really has a market all it's own. It's ambitious, but I think it will be successful. You just have to think of the game as ever-evolving. I'm sure EVE users had their frustrations the first couple years playing it.
I get discouraged too, and go on rants, but once I gather myself and calm down, I remember how in depth this game is, and how much it must take to keep it not only running, but growing. Just have faith, things will get better. Just look at what's coming in 1.4.

blah blah blah Wishful thinking...
DUST can't even keep a 5000 count playerbase without doing a special promotion of some kind every week.
Its a dying effort.
Go back and Watch the Rocky movies if you want to see fiction; to see something succeed when it shouldn't.
DUST on paper is a great game, and it'll never get off the drawing board in time. |
