Thats what the wiki notes:
Quote:...scanned targets will remain on your HUD and minimap for a certain duration. They will also show up on nearby teammates' minimaps.
So the wiki suggests that scanned targets are only visible by "nearby" teammates. So what does this "nearby" mean in meters? I was under the impression that the data is linked directly into every team-members datalink/minimap, without any range restriction?
Can some dev confirm this "nearby" range and why is it not explained anywhere in the game or equipment description? This would mean that i have to-be "nearby" my teammates to make scanning usefully, so what is this "nearby" range or is the wiki wrong?

I believe the minimap radius is about 50m so if you scan and an enemy is more than 50m from your teammate then it will not be visible on their HUD. |

In the post I linked, Wolfman suggested that if anything it should only be squad members right now. And we are only talking about active scanners, not the scanners on your suit.
Eventually, only active scanners will reveal info to squad members.
Also, I believe, in pub matches, anyone who is unsquaded is treated for TACNET purposes, as if they are in the same squad. So you can have one giant squad TACNET. However, they cannot have orbital strikes. |

The wiki is unreliable. Hell, CCP doesn't even explain the mechanics of planetary conquest in any one centralized place. You have to piece it together over months of devblogs. |

Wrong, the minimap has a 100m radius. The middile circle is 50m. I think the center circle is 10m. This is VERY VERY important information when trying to place people inside your weapon's optimal range or get outside of their opimal range.
The AR optimal is a bit under 50m, so that line is crucial.
Also, AFAIK, a friendly can still see what you scan/view even if it is outside of their minimap. You have probably had a squad mate or team mate look at a sniper who was most likely not on their or your minimap. So things don't need to be on their or your minimap to share them.
Some scanners reach longer than 100m. |

The problem is that they only talk about internal versions and plans, but not how the current system ingame actually works! All other information also seems to start with "I believe", rather than "I tested" or "Dev xy confirmed".
So i still don't have any new information if this "nearby" range actually even exists or what range it has, even worse now i'm unsure who will actually see my scanning results if i'm not squadded or squadded.
From the beginning of playing Dust as Logi, it was a pain to get even the most basic informations on how things actually work, seems nothing has changed. |

I've been able to tell with certainty that the scanners' information IS revealed to my squad. however, I think that TACNET information that isn't in your POV or close enough to you to be on your minimap will not be seen by your teammates for that very reason. And even then, if they do turn to view it the chevrons that are revealed can be faded.
I don't know why you are obsessed with this 'nearby range' idea. Why does it matter? I know that i've had a squad member before, who was back in our red line looking at the orbital map, while I scan a previously fogged area to reveal a slew of red-dots that then appears on his overview. He could be in no way considered 'nearby' and thereby confirming to me at least that scanners broadcast their intel to a TACNET that is not respective of proximity to squad members. |

I'm not "obsessed", i did read this "idea" the first time in the Dust wiki, while it was never mentioned elsewhere. So if the range is kinda short, all my scanning would be useless. Thats why i asked here. U are actually the first here to somehow confirm that the range, if it even exists seems quite large.
My other concern now is who will actually see the scan results, if i'm in a squad or not, same for drop uplink usage. |

Just got this answer from a GM:
Quote:Active Scanners: If you are in a squad, you and your squad mates will be the only ones to see the scan results. If you are not in a squad, only you can see the scan results. If you are in a squad, the only range restriction will be attributable to the level of scanner skill, and the attributes of the scanner itself.
So, since i mostly play without a squad and as a "real" logi, this means that up until now all my active scanning was practically useless.
Thx CCP for your crappy ingame/out of game manual. |
