well in dust they are using the same thing as in eve. you gain sp while offline. thats why your boosters get used while your not playing or the server is down. The alternitive would be worse like in eve you can set skill and not play for a month a...

you can play with your friends me and my brothers do it. we all have skype accounts and we count down to get in the same match. normaly not on the same team but on the same match is the best we can hope for plus you dont miss out on the voice chat...
