It helps a lot if you're dropping the REs on an HAV that is already distracted in a firefight, as yeah when it's by itself then the pilot will hear the REs "clink" unless they play with no sound.

An easier way is to make yourself a target, and watch the idiot charge towards you and into your net of 15 proximities. Also works when placed in unusual places along typical escape routes, place them just right and they'll be outside of the view ...
