To fill in a little more detail on this: Once it occurs, all your fittings are marked as invalid due to not having any modules, weapons, grenades or suits, and your asset window shows nothing. Once you've restarted the game, everything shows up ...

Heavies are far from unkillable. And if you're in a HAV, of course you'll see people pulling out heavy fits. Your HAV is scissors. Their assault fit is paper. Their heavy fit is rock.
