Since there's someone else here that uses gallente LAVs- Do those special, more expensive (but slightly weaker) armor plates slow down your LAV? It seems they don't affect the speed of mine.

It seems gallente is the way to go. Caldari is traditionally chosen for vehicles because they can survive better against swarms. Gallente are slightly harder for forge guns to take down, from what I understand.
