You just need to be holding the left stick in any direction and you slide away when you get picked up, also works when landing from a inertial dampener you can slide along while in the crouching animation.

I have more officer gear than I can shake a stick at, comes from my main weapons being MD's with scramblers as back up. Also with only getting 1-3 salvage when you do get them why do I still see people using Balac's or Krin's in pub matches.
