If I pretend that this PS3 game is all just a beta and will be polished and full of Eve interaction for a future release on the PS4, its not in a bad state. I don't mind a game that is built slowly, but why is CCP wasting so much time on the PS3? By the time this game has what it needs to succeed on the PS3 version, it will be long overdue for a PS4 release.
I like to think CCP is prepared for lackluster server numbers for awhile. I want this game to succeed and I can wait a couple of years for everything, but not if all the work is being done for the PS3.
I can't understand why a company who plans a game to last for the next decade isn't focusing all it's resources on building a game for and around the PS4. The sooner experienced is gain for the next gen, the better.
Maybe that's why things are moving so slow..... maybe most of their attention is on a PS4 version, one can only hope.

Probably because they have a PS3 exclusivity contract for 1-2 years. I suspect that contract extends to not allowing the game on the PS4, however sad that might be/sound. |

I wish there was a PS4 version of Dust 514 in the works, but, alas, that's all it is GÇö a wish, and one that will likely never come true.
Fortunately, the PS4 will have a plethora of choices for folks, like myself, who enjoy FPS along the lines of MAG and, yes, the customization/world-building that Dust 514 has. Planetside 2 comes to mind, along with Battlefield 4 and Killzone: Shadow Fall. |

Let me use my limited English skills to show you something: The PlayStation 3 is about 6,5 years old, and there are around 77 Million PS3s on the marked, and the Numbers are still growing. Seeing this numbers you can tell, that Sony sold average 11 Million PS3s per year. If you break this numbers even more apart you will have something around 1 million per month. The 1 million per month is a theory. Sony as god as never sold one million per month in the first two years due to the very high cost at the PS3 lunch. IGÇÖm sorry but I have no numbers per month, especial the year of 2006 and 2007 would be very interesting.
Considering that the PS4 is cheaper that the PS3, you still can hardly sell more than one million per month due to the assembly lines. We donGÇÖt know how many lines Sony have, we donGÇÖt know when Sony will start the production. But there are expected numbers between one and three million PS4s at lunch worldwide. (Worldwide, NOT America only) And an estimated production of one million PS4s after the lunch per month. In other words, if you produce a game, you do it with the motivation to earn money (as a company at last). Where do you think it the biggest marked? Of course it is the PS3 for now any many years after. If your game sucks, you can still earn a lot of money on the PS3 with it. If your game is average you can earn less money on the PS4 with it.
One more thing (it does not concern Dust514, this is only for information): Keep in mind that lunch titles are as good as never lucrative. There is not enough hardware to make profit. By the time that there could be enough PS4s on the marked for the games to make some profit, no one will be interested in buying the lunch titles or at least there is enough variety for gamers to NOT to buy a lunch title GÇ£be course there is nothing elseGÇ¥.
TL;TR: There are way more PS3s out there than PS4s, a flop could generate more money on the PS3 than a hit on the ps4. |

Take into account that Sony only stopped manufacturing ps2's last year, well into ps3's life. The last ps2 game was FIFA 2014. The transition to ps4 for dust will not happen for at leaste another 2-3 years (possibly longer). They need to wait til majority has moved to ps4 in order to move over to next gen. Like you said, think of dust on current gen as being one big beta, and we're testing it for ps4.

as it's unreal engine it can be easily ported over to ps4 and a newer engine due to backwards compatibility, but I can tell you now, they are not working on it for ps4 compatibility yet, they don't have the resources or time. |

well im keeping my ps3 and am still going to play stuff on it. the whole ps4 vs ps3 argument is stupid, play what you like. personally i think dust is a piece of crap right now but, I keep it on my ps3 because I may return one day. never say never. however, that being said, if bf4 sucks me in with its 32 vs 32 player battles, then there is a distinct possibility that i may never return to dust at that time. The same goes for killzone shadow fall. but back to the point, ps3 will be ok for awhile, sony realizes that not everyone has the ability to run out and get a brand new 400 dollar system, eventually the ps3 will fade away, just like the ps 2 did, ( i miss that thing) |

I think the transition from PS3 to PS4 will be a lot quicker than it was for the PS2 to PS3. Sony really messed up the launch of the PS3 in almost every way from price to stock and region availability. I assume that Sony will try to avoid this problem with the PS4. You are also looking at very different competition for the PS4.
Where the PS3 was competing with the Wii and Xbox 360 both very popular the PS4 is faced with the Xbox One and Wii U both of which are considered as less desirable this go around.
As such the ps3 faced far greater issues when it came onto the market compared to what the PS4 will face. However, I would like to see Dust make the move to the PS4 in early 2015 when I hope any exclusivity agreements will have run out and most PS4 hardware and software issues will have been sorted out. |

I believe this is correct Zdub. The game SHOULD be on PS3 for another year or at least 6 months after PS4 release. Than after that contract is up Sony will decide if they want this game on their precious PS4 or just leave it on PS3. The way this game is at present day I am guessing Sony will just leave it on PS3. Sony wants to clearly win the console wars this year. Putting Dust on PS4 won't look good. The game really doesn't offer anything for new players and would just look like a gimped game to potential new users that will be PS4 users.
Before somebody says all PS4 users will be PS3 users. Not true PS4 was more appealing to the masses at E3, in other words Xbox fans will be migrating over to PS4 you don't wanna introduce a game like Dust to them and make Sony look like a joke. Let's be honest here this game isn't appealing to a new player who has to go into a academy getting stomped out by EXO5s and P2W items like CodeWish and any other Aur item.
People use the Aur items to test the guns out with fewer SP to see if it's something they like. Obviously new players will be less likely to come into a brand new game throwing cash at it just to test stuff to stand a chance against other Vet players pretending to be new players. |

Lets look at this objectively with common sense and intel to boot.
First of all, CCP stated they plan on to keep supporting the PS3 game. Nothing was said about them transitioning this game to PS4. Nothing.
Also, you D1 buyers are the minority when the PS4 drops. I don't know about you guys, but I have never bought any new tech device in its first generation stage. That's just plain stupid. First gen is always bound to have its problems. The R and D department fine tunes and tweaks the device as time progresses. Also, since the majority won't have PS4s, you will still see a significant support for current gen.
Also, it helps to mention, that games on next gen won't be all that great as you might think. It takes the devs some time to understand how to work the engine. I remember playing my buddies Madden on his new 360 that looked just like the Xbox version and low on options.
Plus, even when I do purchase PS4, why on earth would I get rid of my PS3? |

I don't see a need for a PS4 version now. They still have plenty of room left to improve it on the PS3. I definitely won't have more fun when it's running on a PS4, because it will still be the same game. |

I think a few of the issues have been nailed on the head in the above posts:
- There is an exclusivity contract in there somewhere, and it may involve segregating its presence on current and next-gen consoles. Even though it may not be evident in player numbers, Sony actually use Dust 514 on a lot of marketing. Whenever I go into stores, I see Dust 514 PS3's lining the shelves, and a panoply of other Dust 514 labelled Playstation 3 equipment.
- Most mature games for the PS3 only started to appear a year after the release of its console, once developpers had really started to grasp the potential and the pitfalls of the processor. I think this time around, seeing as they're basing themselves on more common x86 architecture, as opposed to the cell processor, developpers may be able to churn out titles faster. I think this is reflected in the larger number of release titles for PS4 lined up as opposed to the anemic lineup when the PS3 launched.
- If you look closely at the CCP recruitment ads, they ask for experience in Crytek technology as well as Frostbite engines, and of course, the unreal engine. It may be at this time they have not really decided on the next-gen engine they want to model the next ten years one. It must be a really difficult technical debate - they have to find a scalable solution, that plugs into the EVE backbone, and something that can be migrated to without resorting to too much middleware. CCP have always shown that they can contend with unique technical challenges so I'm confident they can deal with this.
All this being said, I'm sure Dust 514 will eventually migrate to PS4, but it will not be at the release of the console, and it will only be about a year after its release, if not more. There will then be a period of co-existence as both consoles (or other platforms that they open up to) will all exist on the same shard. A lot of this will be dictated by market dynamics - If the sales figures of PS4 are amazing, it might force them to push it to the console faster. It might not even be the PS4 but the Xbox one - who knows?
Finally, there is a resource element to be factored in - we don't know if the game is profitable... as the game hasn't been out for a full financial year so we won't have access to the P&L statements just yet to see how much of a profit/loss Dust runs on. My bet is that for the first few years, until the game is mature, it really won't make much of a profit. Until then, dev teams and company resources will remain restrained - it is a business after all and I imagine EVE right now is much more profitable, being one of the last few bastions of monthly subscription MMO's.

I don't believe that most of the content that people claim to be abandoned is really abandoned quite yet nor the move to the PS4. It is qued up with the 5 million other things they are playing catch up on.
This whole evolution process for DUST has started off so...shattered. It is almost like the entire game and production plan has had to be reassembled. Reassembled by like 10 people it seems at times.
My doubts lie in further execution in this game that is thorough and well made, BUT I also believe if they do stick with this and get whatever plan they are using refined with much more efficiency and ability then I bet it will be quite an impressive PS4 title some day. That is a major IF though, something we players have little control over.
Really that whole future depends on things that are unknowns like; player interest and awareness of changes, CCP determination to improve the product, and continued Sony support for the efforts. Right now all of these things seem a huge uncertainty for the onlooking crowd.
Afterall I'd like my character to someday be in a vastly improved PS4 DUST. We'd have so many SP by then after dealing with all of this beta crap. DUST just has to get off of life support by it's own strength. Otherwise pulling the plug seems an immenint option. |

I can't see Sony having any contracts that would prevent a game developer from developing a game that exists on PS3 on their new console.
Even if there were such contracts it would be very much in Sony's best interest to redo any contract written as such. |

It would probably work in CCP's favor to have DUST ready for the PS4 at launch, given it's a window when there isn't an overabundance of games (though there will still be a lot of launch games) and a lot of people aren't willing to spend a lot on new games after paying for a new console. I figure it will take a few years for them to make the jump though. |
