So I started playing Dust 514 for about two weeks now and I have a total of 1.5 mil of SP and about 260k unallocated. I have invested sufficient SP to have switch all of my miltia for the standard variant (except SMGs) and I plan to go into caldari assault dropsuits.
My problem is that I just don't know what to skill into next. Could the community help me with my build? Here's my skill list.
-Assault Rifle Operation L4 with bare mininum requirements -Grenadier L1 -Medium Caldari Dropsuit Command L3 w/ 1 level into logi and assault variants -Core Shield Upgrades L2 + Shield Extension L3 -Core Armor Upgrades L2 + Armor Repair L1 and Armor Extension L1 -I forgot the name of the skill but it's the one that lets me use nanohives (standard version only)
I have one level in caldari logi because of the FOTM thing but I didn't want to lose my SMG so I switched to Assault. I want to support my teammates by killing the guy shooting at them and PTFO (Playing the ******* Objective).
By the way, PTFO should be enforced in this game. |

Get armour and shields skills up asap to get that extra EHP. Also get complex shields as they will help you survive. Once you get ar to V you can start boosting its damage output without modules which is really nice and does make a big difference. |

As above, you need your shields and armour to level 5 as well as shield extension. But you also need dropsuit core upgrades (I think that's what it's called, gives +1% to CPU and PG), engineering and electronics up. You need the extra CPU and PG to fit better modules. I recommend trying to get them all to level 2, level three is good but requires quite a lot of SP and since you don't have a proto suit yet, it should suffice. Just see how much you have CPU/PG to spare and go with that. Don't splurge your SP on skills if you cannot fit the weapons or mods on your suit.
As for weapons, yes they are important, but ADV weapons are good and I recommended them until you have your base skills up. Proto weapons and modules are not easy to fit. Whatever MLT modules/weapons you have now, get at least that one point in the required skills so you're able to replace them with the basic variants. You also might want to look into shield regulators, they decrease your shield recharge delay. They fit in low slots so you don't have to risk your tank.
It's beneficial to get the Caldari assault suit to level 3 as well. You get the racial bonus and your ADV suit will be cheaper. You should aim for the proto once you have your core skills up. If you really want to go all out, check the fitting tool here. |

Rule of thumb:
Try to shoot for skills that you will be using most of the time. if you skill into 3 different weapons, you can only use one at a time, however a core dropsuit skill will apply to most suits. |

... so from where you are now, I recommend the following in this order:
-- Shield Extension V ... Complex shield extenders will make your advanced med frame cal suit purr. -- SMG Op I ... it sounds like you like to use your sidearm effectively and the std is well worth it; alternatively, get a Toxin. -- Assault to III... long and painful, but get it done. Cheaper than basic frame and get 15% to your shield recharge & 6% to extender effectiveness.
From there:
-- Grenadier II for a Packed AV nade fit then III for M1s. -- Shield Upgrades III then IV for primary health. -- Armor Repair I ... you will need to fit a basic rep instead of mlitia for fitting purposes soon. -- Armor Plates I ... I personally like a basic plate and basic rep on caldari adv assault suits; alternatively, whatever you want to run in lwos -- Armor Upgrades III-IV for improved 'saved by the skin of your teeth' survivability after getting fluxed or getting hit by stray grenades.
After that man, there are lots of paths, but as the quote above says, try to stick to what is going to make what you are wearing better every time you wear it. SP in minmatar suits does you no good while wearing a caldari suit. I'd recommend pushing for AR proficiency and rapid reload skills to III before you even work to get into a proto assault suit. That way your Gek hits much harder and you can drop protostompers. I'd also recommend pushing your core skills // Core Upgrades, Electronics, Engineering, Shield Upgrades, Armor Upgrades, Biotics // all up to level IV before you try to get yourself into a proto suit. Proto suits are expensive and you need to be able to squeeze very good equipment and lots of HP / speed so that you have some survivability. As a guy who likes SMGs, you can also consider pushing into SMG proficiency III/IV early on so that even your standard sidearm ('Toxin' or the ISK variant) hits pretty hard.
You are also going to eventually want to train drop uplinks to at least level I so you can provide uplink support for a squad if needed (though not necessary if you're just doing pubs, it IS a great way to get WP fast if you place them correctly), as well as getting nanocircuitry up at LEAST far enough that you can carry K-2 nanohives.
Finally, at the risk of 'spreading SP' out and contradicting myself above, consider getting Handheld weapon upgrades V and Swarm Launcher Operation III. A CBR-7 swarm launcher with 3x complex damage mods packs a punch and gives you an option to counter vehicles rather than just wait for the match to end while getting run over continuously, and if you have the aforementioned SMG skills you can still be 'sort of' effective running and gunning (though you have **** all for tank). That is SEVERAL hundred thousand SP 'off spec' though, so only do that if you feel comfortable in your advanced suit. You may prefer to save those SP and use them toward your proto suit. |
