Sorry this will be long but i believe helpful to you
Please ignore what the first couple of posters have told you they obviously do not have your best interest in mind as telling someone who is not good at fps to just pick the best suit and an assault rifle is not helpful. It is true a caldari with an assault rifle is deadly but you are not a killer in fps and luckily this game is built so that you don't have to be. What I am going to do is tell you options that I believe will be good for someone like you.
1st off you have a logi which is under medium dropsuits but you must unlock medium dropsuits of the same race level 3 before you can unlock logistics dropsuits. I have to say tho the Gallente logi isn't really that great between the Cakldari, Amaar and Minmatar they all have pros and cons that make them good not a one is the best, instead they all fit a role. A caldari logi has high shielding which is good against most things until u get hit by a flux grenade.
An Amaar gets to carry a sidearm and is generally well rounded period you can pretty much do what you want with it but it doesn't excel in any area, don't let balance be confused with weakness tho. Remember armor equals loss of speed choosing an Amaar u will most likely choose to put armor plates and it will slow u down unless u use ferroscale.
A Minmatar is the calssic logi and the only one to carry 4 equipment but is generally easier to kill than the other two except for the fact it is faster. For a true logistics guy tho this is definitely a good choice because of the equipment slots a good thing to do is make sure u stay behind guys and support them as a logi.
For a logi that can't carry a sidearm Mass Drivers are a good option just something logis have always used its hard to explain. Obviously you have other options but if u have trouble killing a shotgun isn't gonna do you much good, you could do swarm launchers though but choose the Amaar or an assault dropsuit so you can carry a sidearm. Plasma cannons are out there but completely impractical. And for equipment you're gonna want to carry a bunch of different things depending so i suggest multiple loadouts. Repair tool if you want to nanite injector maybe drop uplinks if you want to make sure ur people are in a certain spot. Personally i carry all nanohives so i have ammo for my mass driver and i drive my lav to repair people instead of carrying a rep tool but i have loadouts with rep and nanite.
Next you have the other support roles the Heavy and the Scout Sniper(not much to explain with snipers)
The Heavy is a force on the field problem is speed you are extremely slow good thing is you have a BFG at your disposal churning out 2000 rounds a minute, or a Forge gun which is essentially a plasma cannon that shoots straight with more power bigger clip size and the ability to decimate shield tanks and and dropship, lav or turret. Cons to this however are big you are instantly targeted you can't turn around so ull have problems with fast guys and ur heavy machine gun is weaker against shield. Forge gun however can destroy infantry but require accuracy up close another weapon where you need the high ground.
Lastly I want you to consider vehicles Lavs if you want to but thats more for fun. Tanks are good but Armor is weak against every anti vehicle weapon but the forge gun. Shield tanks mostly lose fights to Armor tanks and are weak against flux grenades and forge guns. Tanking is also expensive and will take a long time to be good at I suggest doing what i did and getting a dropsuit you're comfortable with being on the ground in before becoming a tanking. It takes more time but allows you to have something on the ground besides tanks all the time if you don't want to run militia gear.
Dropships are great for what they do however can be destroyed quickly if you don't leave when someone gets a good shot on you. Good for transportation or killing a regular dropship can carry pilot + 4 passengers + 2 gunners assaults carry 2 passengers + 2 gunners and a logi i believe is same configuration as regular. For dropships i can't tell you how to be a pilot its a learning process hovering R2 + L2 is key if you want you're gunners to get kills.
That said i know theres a lot I've not included but you know that would take forever. I'm not calling out any play style anything that works for people is good i said gallente aren't that good but there are a some pretty good players that use them they just make sure to kill you first. Feel free to message me I love helping people in this game because a lot of people get pissed off and quit due to the hard work you have to put into this game. Also to anyone that thinks I made a mistake feel free to correct me its better that new players have the correct info.
