So I've been thinking about the idea that we're supposedly genetically enhanced superhuman warriors, and why it doesn't really feel that way.
I think we need humans.
In the most comparable game to Dust (in terms of the superhuman thing) there are humans fighting alongside you. You are often reminded of how god-like your strength is, and how incredible your heroics are. Of course I'm talking about Halo.
I think it's important that to show how we are genetically enhanced, incredibly strong and durable, we should be able to see some things that aren't. Livestock would be good, things like cows or something simple if humans can't be done, but just something to show precisely the scale of what we are capable of.
A PvE mode where we could fight alongside (or against) colonists would also serve to show just how special we are.

Isn't the only difference between the Dust Mercs and the normal Mercs in Eve Online, that the Dust Mercs are immortal due to the implants? Gear and so on should be the same even for the normal mercs. |

They're supposed to be far superior in every way. It would be nice if we had some randomly generated story missions to do alongside mortal humans, it would add a fantastic level of depth to the game and the unEVErse overall, perhaps highlighting the desperate struggle that normal humans go through in a galaxy filled with immortals.
It could even show an interesting side of the immortals, and going back to Halo, how humans view them. In the early days of the Halo fiction, notably Reach, humans had a rather active dislike of the military and also the Spartans. It would be incredible to see CCP's interpretation of the relationship between immortals and mortals, because as far as I'm aware, they haven't really touched on it in much of the fiction. |

Also immortals use different weaponry because they can afford to even if they die. The average man wouldn't dare pickup a plasma shotgun even with shields, because the thing has the potential to set you on fire. Only someone with infinite lives would take this risk. |

the clones that we inhabit are actually throw-away... the weapons that we wield, the equipment that we use, has short term, deadly side effects with them (look at the description for the uplinks)
our clones are not made to survive, but to hit, and hit hard |

what.... Yeah that does sound confusing by itself lol. The reason I mention cows as being in the game is because most people are aware that a cow is a very large, heavy beast. Standing a clone in a rural farm area with things that many people have at least seen before would show just the scale of a clone soldier. It was also because I imagined us protecting some kind of frontier colonies where farming would be a big deal and so if CCP found adding human characters, they could just throw in any old livestock.

regular humans hate to work with us though..... Maybe kill some pirates, or some zombies, but fighting with humans wouldn't happen. |

Well even if they hated these guys, they might fare better against an incursion than a farmer with a pitchfork and a thumb up his ass. |

The gear we use is entirely tailored to our modified bodies, yes. For instance, the tech that makes the Drop Uplinks work involves radiation exposure that would be very harmful to a normal human.
As another example, our bodies perform as incredibly well as they do because they are built entirely for performance at the cost of all other attributes. Among other effects, this means that our clone bodies have a lifespan of 5 years, which was discussed in Templar One.
Since we die as often as we do, the 5-year maximum never comes into play, however. |
