I'll summaries Gallentean society and be as unbiased as I can.
The Gallente are what I would calla hyper democratic federation of states, they are fully supportive of personal liberties which make them one of the most liberal societies in New Eden, and while it allows fo growth and change, it also allows for chaotic flux and massive crashes.
While people have the chance to rise to the top its all to easy for them to also crash down to the bottom, and with Federation being such a sprawl and mix of people its easy for those people at the bottom to be lost to those at the top.
The Gallenteans are also massive consumers of entertainment, this ranges from holoshows, to almost every conceivable product you can imagine, and since they are so liberal in terms of society they are more open to things like sex and drugs (( Those statistics aero pulled are not just made up, I believe the original source was a DEV but I cannot confirm)) as such they consider exotic dancing and art for, and are somewhat known rather dubiously for their orgiastic debasements in come circles (aka the Amarr).
So yes the Gallente are the closest thing to a libertarian society and do look upon themselves as champions of freedom and civil rights, but they are also sort of morally grey in regards to what we would consider morally repulsive things ((aka hard drugs and prostitution)). |

I won't lie to you guys, I've been trying to construct a character while knowing very little of the lore besides the broadest of strokes. In short everything I'm doing is like the plot of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, no idea what's really going on but trying to pick up clues and make it up as I go along. All I know is to not sell out Hamlet or make decisions based on the flip of a coin. |

Bouncing walls of OOC players and brainstorming is the surest way of doing it.
I could ever write up a short example piece if you want. |

The way I've imagined the character, the mercenary work is a means to an end. That end being making a whole lot of money without committing a major crime. Though he does feel like there's adventure to be had while charging into battle. If he could get away with it, he'd swing into a battle with a cutlass between his teeth like every other character played by Erroyl Flynn.
Loyal to the Minmatar, but largely indifferent to the politics involved.
His distance from his birth family was a choice he made well before he became a mercenary. They were involved in seedy activities and arguably much of his persona is a deliberate effort to reinvent himself. Even if he's cultivating the image of a goofy cowboy it would be a welcome change from the career criminal he might have been if he stuck around.
If he managed to bumble his way to the top, I think he would live it up briefly then do his best to put in place someone more capable as he bailed out before getting assassinated. |

See you already have you character....
Just so you know Gallenteans don't actually like the Matari all that much, as you can see from recent events, they simply were opportunistic during the Amarrian engagement with the Jove and armed the rebellious matari factions, currently the Gallente see the Matari as a weapon to hold up the Amarrian empire while the Federation tries to over power the Caldari.... that's the essence of the Matari Gallente relationship. |

Since we're merrily posting character background tales, this one is mine. Whether it's any good, I have no earthly idea, since as soon as I finished it the comments mostly dried up. I'm not above tinkering a bit if something needs fixing.

In my mind, before you ever want to make a decent story (and I hate to be the one to say it) you really need to do some background reading before you start up. You don't need to know the WHOLE lore, but enough to make a certain amount of references and connections that will add value and merit to your writing. As an example, the whole reason I ever started RPing on the board a month ago was to bounce my character around until I had him figured out and do a little bit of a warm up to get in the mindset for writing. When I first came here, I am not going to lie, I knew very little about lore. Now however I like to think I have a strong enough grasp to be fiction literate.
I REALLY recommend reading at least a little bit of lore. The more you know, the better you are.

I was inspired to create Kador's character quite a while ago, but after reading the Ultramarines omnibus I was able to flesh out Kador enough. |

I've been reading a lot of the fanfiction on this site, and I gotta say, you are all really good! It is an honor to share a fandom with you all.
Oh, and I made another minor edit to my story and character, seeing as I can still get away with it. Galm is actually younger than he appears (19-ish.) I figured it would be cool to play with the concept of a fully mature cloned body suddenly being pressed on a teenager. (Might explain his attitude aswell... Which I have to admit might be a bit of myself.) |

That's odd because I make Kador a lot older than he actually apprears. Chronologically he is 36 but because he was cloned at the age of 27 that is how old he appears. |

Nice I hope you write into your lore about how I refused to shoot back at you.
Actually mid game I was looking down on you and your team from above, hovered over you for a second, then moved right on to your heavy. |

It did make good tactical sense. I suspect CCP's eventually going to start cracking down a bit harder on our use of OOC in there generally, which is part of why Backstage seems like a good forum to discuss things in. The Library's fine, but ... it seems like this is mostly the place for stories, you know. |
