It's hard to detect other Snipers when you are a Sniper itself. Mainly because tracking speed with scope is very slow, when you are at the top of building, and you are looking down that tracking is even slower. Checking wide area with scope is just painful. I developed a method that makes it easier - I'm spamming R1 while checking horizon, if something is there health bars will appear, yes It is also painful but less.
I would like to have a google or binoculars that have some friendly zoom-in option, and can detect "red arrows" on wider area than sniper scope. I see it as equipment.
(That's it, but they may also detect: distance, dropsuit type:H/L/M, target weapon, HP etc) |

as somone who snipes almost exclusivly i dont think this is necessary as target acquisition, tracking and selection are all parts of being a sniper.
if your having troulbe locating an oposing sniper then pay attention to the direction from which shots are coming from and scan for possible hiding spots/ vantage points in that dirrection. if you still cant find them then communicate with your team to see where they have noticed shots comming from as most are more then happy to get rid of a nuisance sniper. |

I'm speaking in the name of me alt with is in NPC corp, and never saw PC battle or other team-voice friendly match.
I do not like examples taken from real life, but if my life turned out differently I could now be a sniper in Afghanistan and certainly I would not rely only on me own skills during the mission, but on guy that sit next to me and looks for targets with his equipment - which, among others, are binoculars.
All I do on my alt is sniping, he is spec. in it totally. Being a sniper does not look like you describe it. When opposite sniper locate your spot, you have something like 40% to survive his first attack, because usually he is using Charge Sniper Rifle, and there is just a few dropsuit that can survive first shoot, beside if you sniping, you do not have tanking modules, but dmg modules. Looking for a sniper when he exactly know where you are is a sure death sentence, and do not think that the time will save -snipers are patient. |

Scanning a sector is just that, tracking speed is reduced when crouching. If your scanning for targets stand up, its faster. Crouch to shoot, AFTER you already scanned/peeked your target while standing. A stationary unaware target is the easiest to kill, so while standing and scanning from cover keep moving. Never stop to scan, move while scanning, spot your target, then crouch & engage. |

this idea reminds me of america's army, where sniping involved lots of crawling and waiting. I recall that if i was squad lead I would have binoculars and the rifle, and this was great because the binoculars were very useful, both because they offered a wide field of vision and fast tracking. With sniping requiring careful aim in Dust, having binoculars to scout targets and then taking time to switch the rifle would be worth it. The problem is it wouldn't be worth giving up an equipment slot. However there's plenty of room on the weapon-swap wheel to fit binoculars. So either everyone could get them, or just snipers. And forge gunners. Doubt it'll happen but i like it anyway. |
