I'm playing Dust as an EVE (maybe Ex-EVE) player. Dust and EVE are similiar in that they let people of varying skillpoints play against each other, Pro's and Noob's go head to head.
In EVE they balance this by giving the noobs something to do such as Tackling (Warp Scrambler + Webbing) or Scouting.
But in Dust when you're a noob surrounded by pro's there isn't much you can do other then maybe droplink or sniping, maybe active scanner as well.
I just played a string of ambush matches where half the time my gones wern't even scratching shields on some players, is there any way of telling what suits the enemy is wearing.
There's also a worrying lack of any sort of Documentation on Dust. No resources on weapon types or dropsuits. Is there a Dust 514 wiki out there?
Appreciate the help. |

Easier way to get your feet wet is to play the militia logistics suit and run with some combination of militia repair tools, nano hives, or injectors. You can score points from your team with those items and you get to try out some of the shooting mechanics too. I've gotten a few people into the game though introducing them to logi suit before they branched out. |

When you aim at a dropsuit target intel is displayed in the bottom left corner of your screen. It's kind of an annoying placement but get in the habit of checking it when you're at lower SP. Eventually you'll probably be able to identify what tier a suit is merely by looking at it.
It's tough being a newbro, but hang in there and squad up. =) |

ISK The Guide just came out with a Dust guide if you are looking for documentation. Other than that, the rookie training grounds part of this forum is a good place to start.
For suits... learn to differentiate the races from one another. If you can tell caldari from gallente, you are good. Caldari suit with yellow accents is going to have great shields which you need to deal with. if any suit is black, they are proto and will be more deadly/harder to kill. Minmatar suits are faster but easier to kill if you get your gun on them. |

Thanks for the quick replies, explains alot as to why I've been dying lately. Going up against a Proto suit with a Mass-Driver was always going to be a one-way massacre. |

Even a militia drop uplink will have you racking up the points quick. If you get good at positioning people will keep spawning and you can make a boat load of points. Drop Uplinks are also a very valuable skill late game and getting to level 4 is almost required for Planetary Conquest. So skills in Drop Uplinks are never wasted. |

Logi can be a nice role for a new player to fill. Everyone loves you too.
I really like it when people jump or melee or do something clearly showing thanks when I'm repping them. |
