why do they blow up when you try to land, I get if you are taking a hard landing but I mean....
i'm hovering about 10 feet off the ground, sweating bullets like I was doing brain surgery, I have a nurse patting down my fore head as I slowly attempt to get closer milimeter by milimeter, their is a silent hush in the crowd watching me, and I know the russian judge is going to give me a 6 even if I land this thing perfectly, i'm about 8 meters off suddenly I push the R2 button a little too hard and my ship lightly grazes the ground like a featehr falling onto the ground and...... BOOOOM 3000 damage my ship is dead.
seriously wtf is with the landing in this game. |

Short answer, too many pilots used them like LLAV's to crush foot soldiers by plowing the length of the map from end to the other without taking damage. |

there was no middle ground between "free falling rock skipping drop ship on the ground" and "52 pounds of unmaintained nitro glycerin strapped to the bottom"? |

then you will end up going up again, or left...usually corner wise, either way the issue is the speed you are going when you hit the ground, i've had 100 drop ships I went through my last drop ship today, out of 100 drop ships I crashed attempting to land them 94 out 100 drop ships, I've landed about 200 times and am pretty good at it, but in the end it doesn't matter since there's no room for mistakes, the tiniest mistep costs you your ship. |

I usually wait for the landing gear to deploy and then put down. If I'm thinking of making a rough landing I hit my hardeners and reps first. |

The triggers are pressure sensitive, so a light press will make you descend slowly, while mashing it down will make you drop like a ton of bricks. Give it a try in the redzone during a skirmish match.

When there is only one map to play on you have to figure out new ways to keep the game interesting. I will admit when people started Monty Pythoning in the free Militia Dropships things may have gotten a little out of control. |

It twas a bad thing, considering that AV grenades had no homing and swarms were really broken, not to mention that tanks shrugged off the enitre team shooting proto forge gun rounds at them, and dropship pilots had 1hit kill missle turrets; so when you tried to kill 1 it was impossible.
Furthermore there were at least 3 out dropping players off on the towers who called in tanks that could shoot down on any part of the map.... I wish CCP let us record and display that phase of the beta so i could throw those moments in to the face of any vehicle user who says that they need a buff or that AV needs a nerf. |

Well collision damage was lowered in Uprising. I usually take landings slow and smooth, but if you want to pull one fast, remember that infantry can stand under you, jump, and get into the ship. Which means you have a buffer zone of about 2-3 metres where you can hover over before landing. Which means you don't need to be extremely precise with rapid dives if you want to extract a squad quickly; you have a little bit off leeway with how low you're required to go. In some cases, keeping that extra few meters between you and the ground means you can tilt your nose downwards as soon as you've picked up/deployed your troops, and that can get you some extra forward momentum to get out before the AV nades start flying towards you. |

Probably didn't help that they had the 'finger of death' missile/rocket launchers on them too, so while randomly spraying 300+ hp splash damage and pancaking anything that moved it made life rather miserable for everyone.
But yes, current landings suck. A better comparison to LAV's may be making even the slightest collision with a scout suit cause instant destruction with the LAV, as a way to fix the 'murder taxi' debacle. |

seriously wtf is with the landing in this game. Which type of DS?
All shield vehicles have significant collision box detection issues. This is amplified with the Drop Ships. Additionally the laggy server network connectivety adds to the problem.
Client thinks that they are 8m about the ground. That would be you on your client PS3. Sever knows that you are 6 m lower but has yet to get the sync with the client. Pilot lands and the server discovers that the Drop Ship descended 6 m into the ground. Explosion, lose of drop ship.
Collision box detection needs work and it needs to accommodate the network architecture such that this disparity doesn't blow up equipment.
I would suggest something on the level of the Nanite Injector fix. Basically a macro like function that uses one of the unused DS3 buttons and would land for you. Preventing the client/server misunderstanding from destroying someone's day. |

was indeed a shield drop ship.
honestly I figured shields were the issue, and have since switched to armor drop ships, but regardless of the tank type they should both be able ot land |

In all fairness Large Rail Turrets and Swarms could F-up Dropships that didn't have good meta gear on them. Also dodging swarms was an art form. While approaching I'd fly to one side of them and jink back across their flight path. In the end I lost many a DS to the trigger happy AIs on the ground.
Those were some twisted days. It is probably why when tanks had their second coming I was braced for it. |

I don't get what's so hard about landing on this game, I have never blown up on a single land I've done and i have been flying since mid-chromosome, I also have been in situations where i have to slow down extremely quick and end up right above the ground and just lower it down slow until it touches ground. I mean, the best i can tell you is to make sure where your landing is flat and your dropship is leveled with the ground before you completely touch down. I think the landing works fine personally, I've never had an issue with it. |

Its more of a tap I guess. It is tricky, but I can honestly say I haven't wrecked a dropship while landing since we got 1.1
Then again, if I land too hard I hop out and start the recall...sooooo grain of salt there... |

Rusty, I used a MOve and Sharpshooter gun attachement to learn how to fly back in the beta, the control scheme now is so much easier. |
