I don't think there is much need to go into great detail about how this would work. But many FOTM types specced into their beloved yellows. Nerfing is in order and I think it is coming in one way or another. To avoid the uprising, lets have a game mode.
We're immortal soldiers, life is cheap.. the universe needs sports.. this would happen.
Two man teams, gunner and a driver.
Just about all the maps have a track of sorts already setup.
People play this anyway,,,, FYI, in case you DEVs didn't already know.
Lets say 10 laps, destruction of LAV and respawn at start line from last lap.
Death of gunner, and he respawns to be picked up at start line.
Death of driver and gunner switches seats.
Death of both... I don't know.
What do you think? Could be fun.

Glad some people like it, I'll expand a bit here.
I hate being run over, I think it is a ridiculous feature to have in a FPS, that said, you guys have done some great work in the developing of LAVs and other vehicles and I recognize that. I can't think of a single module to buff the LAVs that wouldn't come in handy in a death race, shields armour.... speed boosters, it all applies. I just think all that work should have a proper place to excel... off the battlefield. People will argue this, but either way... lets race.
People have been begging for game modes, and good ideas that are easy enough to implement and that would also be well received... hard to come by. Racing is a tried and true game mode.. humans like to race. We have the vehicles, lets race. Bored of shooting? Race.
Balance. This, once finished is a mode you can make and move on. I can't imagine even this finicky crowd screaming nerf or buff the races somehow.
Tournaments and gambling. I've heard talk of gambling, this could be something to gamble on. And proper tournaments fairly easy to set up. With just two man teams.. anyone with a friend can compete for the big prize. (You must realize that tournaments up until now have been very exclusive)
Some random ideas, debate or other suggestions welcome.
-Maybe drop some turrets along the lines for good measure.... maybe
-Decorate the battlefield with some banners like you see in the hanger. Dress it up a bit to fit the mode.
-Possibly allow a corp who owns a district to have in house races on their district, for their own betting or tournaments.
Put their corp logo on the banners???? This is the type of flag planting you can't beat. The victory now celebrate with games type stuff people crave.
-Is it possible for EVE pilots to watch the race from orbit? I have no idea, but maybe they would like it.

I don't think this would detract from DUST as a FPS... quite the opposite, the LAVs have guns.... |
