Take it as a good practice for overcoming a gear disadvantage. If you can do well in standard gear fighting proto, you're gonna really kick ass when you put the black suits on. |

It doesn't matter if they are in proto. You have gun game + your team with gun game + being smart = beat there a$$ I never have a problem with proto in a pub. |

What are people referring to, when they mention "proto" in terms of public matches? Armor? Weapons? For example, I'm finally running in a proto (Basic) suit, but my weapons are a Lv5 sniper rifle, Lv3 swarm launcher or a Lv1 light weapon (currently a mass driver, but I'm getting ready to unlock shotguns and give them a try.) My shield extenders are advanced and armor fittings are all basic. I don't consider these to be over-powered (particularly if I try and fight up close) but would this be considered unfair? My offensive power is pretty much the same as it was with the Advanced suit--I've basically simply added more defense. |

Truth be told. Protos really only have 1.5 advantages.
1) They probably have a lot more HP to to bust through, that's how they usually win their gun fights. You may hit more shots, but you take less to die than them.
1.5) Chances are they have been playing the game for a while, so they are a little more knowledgeable. Give it time. These maps have a lot to learn about. |

Anyone who uses anything other than Militia Gear in pubs is a noob. Gotta give yourself artificial crutches to know that you're good at the RPGFPS where the other team is likely to also be using top gear.
Also, did you put any points into passive skills (ie: Assault Rifle Proficiency)? If you did, way to use those extra 3% damage buffs per level you noob scrub.
You have to use the weapons and gear that real ass players would use to win to be good. If its level 1 garbage? Hahahaha, is this your first day? But if you use stuff that is arbitrarily deemed 'too good', you're just a loser with too much isk.

Part of the problem I see is veterans/any one who was playing before the CCP salvage buy out plan and/or connections with a corp who is active in PC, is sitting on a large mountain of ISK ive said it before and I still stand by it as im one that runs nothing but proto in pub matches...
Proto gear needs to be more expensive.... Proto cost is cheap when you're sitting on a mountain of isk and risk vs reward doesn't matter...
There may be some millionaires that keep their proto gear in the garage during pub matches but if you got it why not use it especially if you can afford to lose it...
1: Up the cost of proto gear so it feels like we're actually losing something valuable
2: Hope 1.4 match making can group people by gear and wallet size..
Cause I dont even hit tab when I drop out of the mcc or look at what kind of suit im shooting at just straight balls to the wall in my shiny non expensive proto gear...

The issue with PRO costing more is a risk of creating a pay to win enviroment due to the existence of AUR items at PRO level. Proto is often the carrot which keeps players in the game. Whether it's a goal or playing with a toy which took months to obtain. |

Same story different price point..
It's bassicly that way now because those players that are NOT blessed with millions feel its mandatory to get proto to compete so they spend AUR in place of isk or SP they dont have... If anything its worse right now because the minority is hurting because of the **** poor matchmaking...
If the price for isk variant proto went up the concept would stay the same spend AUR to get something quicker the carrot would still be there and imo with out a price increase that particular carrot that which CCP is holding could eventually wither away because of the amount of Isk in circulation...
Especially if PvE gets implemented and say the payout is simillar to pubs if not more the average joe will be able to obtain isk just as quick if not close to that of a veteran in PC.... |

Honestly the fears of P2W are outmatched by a need for more development. Ending excessive Proto stomping would make it more fun for old and new players. |

Yep this. I've played on non full Asian servers for most of my Dust career. Nothing hurts this game more than a full proto squad running in a pack and repeatedly smashing 3 or 4 singles. I have no doubt this is why they merged standard and OMS.
A bit of advice to running against these types is sacrifice a clone when you put one down... that is when you catch one alone or up front shoot up his dead body till it goes grey rather than the 5 other attackers coming at you. Let them see you doing it, it feels good and you'll notice a change in the group towards you that earns a smile... full proto doing an about face and running from your militia suit... priceless.
Don't forget the double taps. |
